I hope it doesn't happen. I have Sprint now. I got rid of T-Mobile a few years ago and switched to Sprint.

Both companies have been on life support

for a while now. Perhaps a merger would be better for subscribers of both companies. Looking at Sprint's balance sheet, I don't see how they can keep losing and stay in business much longer.....

Re: Gosh I hope not, Sprints stinks.

hmm I guess it all depends on the area.
Here, T-Mobile service was terrible. I was locked into a year contract with them. I missed many calls because of the poor service. I had to go to the west coast of Florida for a couple of days, and when I was there none of the calls got through and I couldn't make any calls.
Even locally it was terrible. (I had switched from AT&T to T-Mobile).
The week my contract was up I called to cancel, and was told I would have a cancellation fee. I said I wanted to cancel it on the date my contract expired, and was told I would have to keep it until the 10th of the following month as that was my billing period. So, I got Sprint, and when anyone called the T-Mobile number they got my voicemail that gave my new number and saying I had switched from t-Mobile because of the poor service.
That was in 2004 and I have had Sprint ever since with no problems - had Sprint on my home phone since 1987, and since I use them as my cell phone service they only bill me $15 a month for unlimited long distance on my home phone.

If they do merge with T-Mobile I will have to search for another cell phone carrier.

Not to worry.

Even though the article says "merger", just judging from the financials, T-mobile would be in the drivers seat. They would probably just take from Sprint what they don't have (like the Nextel features) and then dump the rest. T-mobile has turned it around:

And Sprint, still nothing but red ink:

Re: Gosh I hope not, Sprints stinks.

Cell service has a very, very long way to go before it ever achieves the perfection of POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) that used to be the best in the world. Sure, there was significant stagnation of technological advancements (remember the old black six button phones?) before the breakup of AT&T and The Bell System, but it almost always worked perfectly, and almost everywhere in the country.

Now we have millions and millions of cell phones, with the variables of multiple manufacturers and different models, electronic transmission methods and the difficulty of covering every possible instance of use everywhere by every cellular company 24/7/365. We expect them to work when we are surrounded by tons of steel going 65 plus miles per hourand when we are deep inside our homes surrounded with numerous electronic radio wave emitting devices.

My first cell phone cost about $1,500 and was permanently mounted inside the car. Today they are as cheap as "free" and can fit into a shirt pocket. That's wonderful, but my "Princess" phone never failed to work. Can you say that about your cellphone carrier, regardless of who they are? I doubt than anyone can say that unless they never move from a single fixed location. For me, PacBell was great for a while then Cingular was the best choice for my needs until AT&T bought them, then Verizon had better service but it was not as good as the old Cingular. Now AT&T is better for my use than Cingular. Go figure.

What works for you at a certain time and in a certain place with a particular instrument may simply not work for me and my phone at that same time and place, let alone elsewhere at a different time. Will it ever work like the old wired phones did? Maybe, but until then you simply can't choose any of the cellular carriers and KNOW for sure that it will work for you, always. What you have to do is just take an informed guess, and hope that it turns out to be a better choice than some other choice would have turned out to be.

For some the merging of Sprint and T-Mobile would be wonderful and for others it will be a lousy situation. You just can't generalize.

Well said, David!

I still have an old black POTS phone (12-button, single-line, touch tone) sitting on my desk today - -and as reliable as ever! Smile (The 6-button were the multi-line phones, no?) My other cordless phones have needed new batteries or complete replacement from time to time, but that old dinosaur from my telecom days (back in the 80's) has never failed me - even during a few power outages!

But everything is a trade-off, isn't it? That old reliable is hard-wired and only moves as far as the phone cord will allow. No way would I give up my cell phone, of course. I figure that having both gives me the best of both worlds...

This is a great post, David. IMO the cell phone co's are competing for our money. I've not experienced a motivation for reliability in the tech world. Yes, we're buying into the latest whiz-bang devices, paying tons of money for them, but nothing is RELIABLE. I know it adds to my angst to have to deal with tech issues in some form a great deal of the time.

Yep, Terry, looks like it is an ad...MLM, I think.

I know that no one realizes when they post an ad like this that if one gets by and is okay then another will...and another, and pretty soon we'll have opps posted each day.

You should put your wares in your profile, click on your link so people can read your profile....and let people review it if they want to. Or, ask Harry if it is okay to advertise it. That will keep our board clean.

Interesting products but that's what your profile is for.

Of course it's an ad.
