Re: in Bucktown Doc's Office!
Hi Cari, I was curious, what does the expiration date of 12/2011 or later have to do with a notarization, isn't a notary who's commission is current, legal to notarize anything? Just wondering.

yes, but for certain foreign countries, like this one in
particular is not only NOT part of the Hague convention, but doesn't understand our laws. So what would see logical for us, is not to them.

Discrimination?
Cari, I know you contribute a lot through your posts, many kudos to you. The first thing I thought is some person out there might misconstrued your posting as discriminatory. That could affect you and the website. Just a suggestion, perhaps put an inquiry out there, and give the details to anyone that calls you. Just thinking of liability and a possible legal inquiry for you or the site.

my post was NOT intended to be discriminatory for the record
The country wasn't named, and had it been named, or singled out, I could see how my post could have been offensive to citizens of that country.
But this particular country, has one of the strictest rules for adoption, and is very stringent about what they accept from US notaries as far as commission expirations. This government truly does not accept how the US notary commissions work, and I know this for a fact, having worked in the government adoption field for more than 7 years. Other foreign countries part of the Hague convention understand, and this is why (I believe) the Hague Convention was created, so that there is a universal understanding of Apostilles for US Notaries.
I personally certainly do not discriminate against anyone. And if someone were to take my original post as discrimination, then so be it, I no doubt will receive a pm or an email here or to my biz.
With running a biz, one has to be prepared to take the good with the bad, and its nothing new for me...but thanks for your concern...I think...

Your welcome Cari, I would never take offense to your post but I am sure there are others that would not understand. We all know wording can make a difference sometimes.

I've run into the Commission expiration problem, ...
... especially with adoptions from foreign countries.
Locally I had to send a couple to another Notary because my Commission was going to expire within the year. The other Notary did the notarizations, the couple drove the documents directly to the Secretary of State's Office, got the Apostilles, and shipped the docs themselves. Just one more set of hoops for (potential) adoptive parents to jump through. (sigh)
