Into this decade: Tethering
I have been having a lot of problems with my cable modem and multiple visits trying to get this straigthened up.
Out of desperation I decided to try "tethering" from my phone to my computer. I have not tried this before because I'm not all that impressed with my cell phone's 'net surfing speed.
Not wanting to "hack" my phone, I found an app which is installed on the phone and on the computer(s) to tether. It cost me $18.95 and I can use it on one phone, but on as many computers as I wish.
It works really well and the speed is decent. I got my app from a strangely named website: http://junefabrics.com which is actually a "PDA Technology Group".
I know all of you are probably way ahead of me on this, but thought I'd share. I have seen others discussing the Blackberry tether, but I have a MyTouch.
What a headache relief to have an alternative source for getting my 'net back up and running.

Make sure your DATA plan is sufficient
or you could end up with a hefty wireless bill!

Yeah, Lisa, I posted months ago about violating the TOS
through tethering--the possibility. Glad you posted this reminder.
I would never recommend it for constant, daily internet use, but if you are in a pinch and need to check your email, etc. it will work.

I also have this program by June Fabrics to tether my Samsung smartphone to my netbook. It works great and can get descent speeds too.

Is there only the one time licensing fee or do you have to pay a monthly fee also?

Newegg sells cable modems very reasonably
I bought one a few months ago for $15.00, giving the boot to Comcast's modem.
