OT: Our national Anthem. I would suggest that you
tune in to NBC at 2:00 PM CDT today. The Chicago Blackhawks will be playing the Nashville Preditors. At the beginning of the broadcasst you will hear the most amazing rendetion of the National Anthem that you have ever heard. Also watch the fan reaction. Long time Blackhawk tradition. Sorry, probably should be in Liesure, but if you want to slam me for promoting the Star Spangled Banner, go for it. GO HAWKS

The national Anthem, and response to it, is politics?

Think Jules was kidding. Bob said his post should probably be in Leisure, and Jules, tongue in cheek I believe, said No - Just Politics

But the original post wasn't even really related to the
national anthem... it was more like a "Watch this baseball game" thing, which belongs in leisure IMO. And I am sure we are all aware that the star spangled banner is played at all sports events, does that mean that it is our patriotic duty to announce all sports games on the "Discuss Work" message board?
Not trying to cause a problem, but since the OP *knew* that this was off topic he should not have posted it here.

Yes it is ...
Bob clearly stated, "At the beginning of the broadcasst you will hear the most amazing rendetion (sic) of the National Anthem that you have ever heard." That was the point of his post, not the game itself.

Well someone did decide to slam me.
As you are obviously unaware, the Blackhawks are an ICE HOCKEY team, not as baseball team. If you lived in a state that had an actual hockey team, as opoosed to the Lighting and Panthers, you might know this. I realize that it is important to keep the board clear for your daily, "How many notaries can dance on the head of a pin? " tome, but I presumed to use a bit of your precious bandwith, to suggest that NOTROTers watch and listen to a great version of the National Anthem. Many do not check the leisure form . Enjoy perusing your well worn copy of the Governor's Manual. Some might enjoy watching an inspiring peformance. GO HAWKS

Re: Should that be "stirring renditon"??
I thought I got that 2nd "r" on the last one - the line was too long I think...new glasses and I'm always seeing 'foggy'. One of those - one eye good, other out of focus things. Verrrry aggravating.
I guess I should have just left it alone and not called attention to it.
Still though - LOL (laughing out loud!) through the pain!

Glad you can laugh through the pain, Jules. I hate new glasses, although I am probably due for some.

Robert...Bob has been posting here for about 300 years...
Here it is from my view...NR is like a community. Sometimes if someone has contributed a zillion posts that are helpful you give them a little respect...enough respect to say, "Hey, maybe this is really and truly important OT stuff that might be interesting to several people."
Now...if the OT poster creates a regular problem, or if the OT poster is brand new and obviously hawking some product or a totally irrelevant topic to enjoyment of the members of the forum, then that's a different story. Bob knows that while the membership here is all over the place on many things, we just about all DO enjoy a good rousing national anthem. He posted it over here so that the most people would be aware of it.
I hope that you'll soon assimilate into this community and find what you can enjoy in it while contributing something that is enjoyable and helpful to others. It seems like you've not found exactly what you are looking for here, but hopefully you will.
Just try to remember that it existed for a long time before you arrived. It's not unlike organizations and communities everywhere where there are relationships, friendships, arch enemies, debate partners and Good Ol' Boys and Girls who are respected simply because of their continued participation. I daresay that if something happened to any of the regular posters (you included) that there would not be sadness felt by those who haunt this place. While there is definitely hotly debated topics here, there is also real affection and it's only a matter of time before you find your place, if you choose to.
I'm not a moderator or a board policegirl, just a poster with an opinion to share.

"we just about all DO enjoy a good rousing national anthem."
Yep! I was thinking the same thing. Red, blue, purple, etc., I'd bet darn near all of us got goosebumps from listening to that. Nice for us to remember what we do have in common! And I very possibly would have missed it on Leisure (although I didn't read in time to catch the live performance.) Thank you, Bob!
Also, just for the record, do I assume you meant "that there would be sadness" felt here? [I took out the "not".] If so, I agree heartily. And I think you made an excellent point, Brenda. Well said! We didn't always have a separate forum for leisure and politics. We used to just mark those posts with "OT". So I guess that makes Bob a bit of a throwback to olden times... [Wait - didn't we just have a thread like this a short while back? ] jk

Correct Sylvia - that is why it was followed w/ LOL!
Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming? Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight, O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming? And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there. Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep, Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes, What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep, As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses? Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam, In full glory reflected now shines in the stream: 'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion, A home and a country should leave us no more! Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution. No refuge could save the hireling and slave From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave: And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand Between their loved home and the war's desolation! Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation. Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just, And this be our motto: "In God is our trust." And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
Francis Scott Key, 1814
