Attention Alabama Notaries!!!

If you are an Alabama Notary and you want to better our professional by trying to get an Alabama Notary Handbook, please contact me at [e-mail address]. DO NOT POST ON THIS FORUM!!! We need your help. We need a Handbook so we don't have to guess at what we are doing in doing General Notarization. If you have called our Secretary of States office for help then you know help is a almost obsolete word. DO NOT REPLY TO THIS POSTING. We do not want to take up a lot of space and we do not need a lot of discussions on a forum. We can do any discussions needed between ourselves. Please Just send me an Private Message.

Thanks,
Lavergne Manuel

I'm not an Alabama notary but...

personally I would be interested to see the discussion. I don't see any reason why it should be limited to private messages only.

I'm not an AL notary either, but I thought AL had a manual available from the Alabama State Bar. This is the information I have:

The Young Lawyers Section is now offering an electronic version of the Notary Manual in PDF format. The cost of the manual is $5.45 and can be paid for using your PayPal account or any major credit card.

Is this correct?

I was asked to keep it short and try not to have too much discussion so as to not take up too much of the thread space. I am sending emails to as many Alabama notaries as I can get email addresses on and asking for help and also since this is an election year to contact their State Representatives and those running for office and ask them for help. We won't get a Handbook now but maybe we can create some awareness of how Notaries are always overlooked.

We are also have a Notary Conference on Oct. 2 and later I will be asking Notaries to email the SOS office and ask the SOS for a Handbook just before the Conference. As far as Notaries are concerned the SOS office almost non-existing.

PAW, you are knowledgeable about all this. Google Alabama Notary Handbook or go to the following link and compare Alabama verus Florida and you will see the difference.

What the young lawyers are selling for $5.45 is exactly the same thing you will see on the link I gave you when you click on Alabama. I was foolish enough to pay $5.45 for something I can get for free.

IOW, the AL Bar is selling nothing more than a list of the pertinent notary statutes? Something is terribly wrong with that picture.

Amen, PAW!

If memory serves me correctly at this late hour, the statutes were written in 1941 (or earlier). Yes, we really are allowed to charge a whopping 50 cents for an acknowledgment, whether we really need the money or not! I simply do not offer some services that are regularly performed by NPs in many other states, just because there's no way to know what is allowed and how to do it, in Alabama.
