NREIS Letter to NSAs

Today I received an email from NREIS. I came very close to deleting it because the sender was a name I did not recognize (Paula Reavis) and the subject line simply stated "Important Message". Because I get a lot of spam I delete anything that is unfamiliar to me or doesn't clearly indicate in the subject line that it's business related. Thankfully I peeped and realized it was from NREIS.

The letter is short and to the point. It's an open letter that apologizes for "fall(ing) behind on our payments to [notaries]". Ms. Reavis attributes the payment issues in 2010 to the recession and slow recovery. She indicates that the company has made some internal changes and is making a deliberate effort to pay everyone everything they are owed quickly. The letter also suggests that their financial problems are behind them.

What I like is that NREIS finally admitted in writing that they have issues are are addressing those issues. This is something that I suggested that they do months ago. However, I understand that putting something in writing of that nature can prove problematic as their competitors may have gotten ahold of the letter and used it against NREIS, by discouraging clients from doing business with them.

Even though I am no longer owed money from NREIS, I am still reluctant to accept future assignments from them. Waiting six months for payment for a small amount of money left a very bitter taste in my mouth and all but ruined the fond memories I had of working with their excellent scheduling team. I think if my last check had arrived with Ms. Reavis' letter inside, addressed to me personally and signed by her personally, I would feel differently. Instead, her open letter leaves one with the impression that payments may still arrive late to notaries. She writes, "You will, or should have already, received a partial payment on your outstanding balance with the remainder to come in the near future". Hmmm....that's the line I give a creditor when I don't know when I can send them anymore money.

This year has been difficult for many of us. It definitely has been for me. Two months this year I made less than $300 in closings, for each month. Had I not had other streams of income I would not be posting here today. But I was upfront with my creditors. I told them my situation and followed through on my promises. Ms. Reavis is correct in stating that this year's recession has hurt a lot of people. She is mistaken, in my opinion, if she thinks an open letter at this late date will heal old wounds.

Time will tell if this company will truly get past this. I hope so for their sake. I know all too well how difficult it can be to run a successful busines and turn a profit. I guess I expect more from the big guys. But I guess I shouldn't. All I have to do is remember the likes of General Motors, Citibank, Countrywide, and Enron.

NREIS has been upfront with me, I've continued to take

work, and they are current.

By the by, isn't "the likes" of GM getting ready for a big stock offering?

"Touche" Susan.

You're right about the stock offering at GM and it did cross my mind to see what the IPO price was going to be because you "just never know". Again, the same could be said about NREIS. They just might come out on top.

<grin> I'll buy some GM stock, probably for the same

reason I've maintained my relationship by working with and believing in, NREIS.

I'm with you - hopeful both companies, and many more, come out on top.

Re: "Touche" Susan.

I wouldn't touch GM stock after the government already screwed the original stockholders by striping them of their and then handing the stock over to the Unions. They did it once they'll do it again.

A big IPO……and…….a multi hundred million dollar plant in Mexico?

I stopped working for NREIS a while back, but only because they wouldn't meet my fees.
They had always been a good company to work with, and provided steady work during the old C/W days. Based on my prior relationship with them, I still think they've shown a lot of integrity in working to get notaries paid. I'm not condoning the six-month wait, or anything like that.
It appears they have genuinely been working at getting caught up. That's a lot more than I can say for a lot of companies that would declare b/k, stiff everyone, and then open up under another name. Just my .02

They do seem to be caught up - I received a check today for a signing 6-18, so 60 days, which is just about the normal (slow) pay for most of the SS's.

Re: NREIS Letter to NSAs... Thats odd

I have worked for them. I was never sent an apology letter. Maybe it is in the mail some where. Well I am happy they said somthing to someone. Saying sorry isn't the easyest thing to do when it effects so may people. Thanks for posting the email.

I'm finally all caught up, and maybe that's the reason why I didn't receive the email. Could be they are sending out the blast to only those who still have open invoices. So, no apology to me (and other "paid-ups") for stringing us out for so long ... with no active responses to our inquiries.

Re: Got payment today for a job 10 days ago...

I have been all caught up since July. When they were behind I told scheduling that I would not be taking any signings with them until being caught up. Well I have not heard from them since and I was doing quite a bit of work with them..I didnt get that email!
