Not sure what "normal" is, nor do I have any idea what a criminal verification in federal court is, but in cases like this, it probably boils down to notarizing a signature from a person who has ID. So, if the signer is there when you show up and the attorney has $$ for you, you're good to go, as far as I can see.

A signing is a signing. Charge your state-allowed fee, and whatever your travel charge to that location would be. Tell the caller up front what the total charge will be before you go, and make sure they're OK with it.

You can only charge what your state will allow
and per your handbook it's $1.00/notarial act http://www.co.stephenson.il.us/clerk/forms/Notary_Handbook.pdf
I don't see anything about being allowed a fee for travel and time. If allowed, only you can determine that fee - you know your situation, where you have to go and how long it will take. If you CAN charge for your time, remember you're going to have to wend your way through the Federal Court, security and all....
Good Luck

Whatever you charge do it by the hour......you may have to wait (if it's an arraignment) . I would get more information about just what it is they want you to do. My .02

I believe criminal verifications are usually certified by the clerk's office in court?
I'd ask to get a bit more info as to the type of form that needs a sign to be notarized, as you may not be able to.

I agree with James and Cari about getting more info
especially at only $1 per notarial act....he'd be better off taking his paralegal with him (I'd think someone from his office is a notary)...

Maybe too simple, but why didn't you ask the attorney what
they were paying for the assignment?
