I did a signing for them a month or two ago. I accepted the signing and then checked their reputation. Wrote them back and expressed my concerns.
The president of the company called me and put in writing that I'd be paid, on time, etc. Did the signing and one week later I had my check. So I have no bad things to say about them, but I don't discount that they've had previous issues.

How could you, Shauna? You are enabling them to continue to propser at your fellow notaries expense. I am always amazed that people are so willing to help out the bad guy, just to line their own pockets. If you think you are doing the borrower a favor, by helping out the bad guys, think about this; the title company would just pull the file from SOX, if for some reason, they were unable to find anyone to work for them. The title company would have called another signing service, or better yet, hired a notary direct.

Agree with Sheila
Plus, this is their habit. They will pay you in the beginning and then the problems begin after. Why work for a company that is famous for not paying notaries? I have never worked for them and never would, because of what they have done to fellow notaries. You are helping them to stay in business at the expense of other notaries.

Re: Agree with Sheila
I also agree. This is why I will turn a job back if, after accepting, I find out that they've not been paying my colleagues. To me, the offer to pay me via Paypal up front just shows that they have burned most of their bridges with other signing agents and they now have to pay upfront to lure me in. I won't do it.
I will not help keep SOX or any of these other loser companies in business. I can't believe SOX is still hanging on. They were snake vomit clear back in 2005! Somebody must be taking their jobs.

Re: Agree with Sheila
SOX is just one of those companies that you should avoid no matter what. They have a long history of failing to pay. They've been sued more than any signing service I know of... AND an arrest warrant was issued for their accounts manager for failing to appear in court when ordered. I'm not sure how that worked out, if it ever did... but the court records are there to prove it...or at least, there were. It was case 30-2008-00050352-SC-SC-HLH from 2008. Some of those cases aren't showing up in the search anymore. Not sure why.
Even more of a warning to AVOID them? Debra Vladic, who I'm pretty sure owns SOX, has been sued left and right by credit card companies in the last year. Now... I TOTALLY get being in tough financial straights... but she and her company have a long history of being a total deadbeat. Why would anyone in such financial trouble continue to run a company such as that where payments to vendors are so important?
These are just the personal cases from credit card companies....
30-2009-00295907-CL-CL-HLH CHASE BANK USA, N.A., A CORPORATION VS. DEBRAQ VLADIC 08/24/2009
30-2009-00326168-CU-CL-CJC FIA CARD SERVICES, N.A VS. DEBRA VLADIC 12/07/2009
30-2010-00334869-CL-CL-HLH FIA CARD SERVICES, N.A. VS. D VLADIC 01/11/2010

30-2009-00255448-CL-CL-HLH AMERICAN EXPRESS TRAVEL RELATED SERVICES VS. DEBRA VLADIC 03/24/2009
And you know she's been banking the money... in 2006 she sued BENTLEY... BENTLEY!! The case was dismissed.

<<I don't discount that they've had previous issues.>>
OMG! That is the understatement of the decade! You must not know that SOX is the scourge of the notary signing agent industry. Otherwise you would have never posted on NR that you actually took a job with them, so I'll cut you ALOT of slack. Working with SOX is like sleeping with the enemy. I try not to criticize any notary for choosing to work for whoever they want and for whatever fee they want (simply because each notary has her/his own business specs) but working for SOX is downright treasonous. Rengel/CA is right. Quit now while the quittins good.

I did the signing because I said yes, and I felt it was my duty to honor my agreement. I've only done one with them and am simply relaying my experience (which was good). I'm still fairly new and don't know all the companies but if they meet my fee I'll do the signing. Once I saw the feedback, I let them know how concerned I was. It all ended well for me. Again, I'm sorry that you all don't agree with me, but I did what I felt was right.

Shauna, I understand that you felt that once you accepted the job, you felt like you had to follow through with it because you gave your word. That shows you have integrity. But you need to be very, very careful when working with companies with poor payment reputations. The ratings don't lie and these companies WILL burn you.
A long time ago I learned to give back jobs where, after initially accepting the job, I researched them and discovered afterward that they have a poor payment reputation. I do this as quickly as possible so they have time to find someone else. I have almost zero collection issues, and that's because I don't work for companies that have payment issues as reported by my fellow notaries. I probably only have only one invoice per year that I have trouble collecting on, and it's usually when I accept a job from a new company that does not have much history posted about them yet.

..."I felt it was my duty to honor my agreement.."
Unfortunately, they don't feel it's their duty to honor THEIR agreement!! They still owe me for a signing I did in 2006! They are lying, filthy scum and I wouldn't work with them if they paid me with solid gold bars, delivered to my door in advance.
They have an "F" rating with the Better Business Bureau. When I filed a complaint with the BBB (after contacting SOX many, many times), their response was "We have no record of this notary ever working for us. Tell notary to submit an invoice with proof of service." WHAT??!@! The BBB report says that this is SOX's standard line - they just say the notary didn't submit an invoice, or make some other excuse. Then they just keep ignoring messages and emails. If you complain to title, SOX tells title the same thing, that you didn't submit a W-9 or an invoice, or some other BS.
Of course I still had the confirmation, the email with the docs attached, and proof of the mortgage being recorded. I had sent numerous invoices and emails, and left many voice messages. They are the biggest liars on the planet. Contacting the title company didn't help. If you work with them, you're sleeping with the devil, in my opinion. Every notary board on the internet has numerous posts about them, so there is no excuse.

This is my last post on the subject, but to make things abundantly clear:
1) They called with a good fee for a signing not too far from me
2) I accepted
3) I then checked their rating
4) I called them back
5) They went through hoops to assure me
6) I said I'd do the signing since I had accepted it
7) They paid me
8) I haven't done another signing for them
I'm sorry if this offends you. In my mind, I had accepted the assignment and it was on my honor to finish it. I see YOU did a signing for them, so you made the exact same move I did. To criticize me is a bit hypocritical, don't you think?

I think they count on the fact that notaries won't follow their instructions, which are buried on their website:
http://www.signonthexinc.com/notary/agreement.php
In particular, see sections 3 and 4. There's a very narrow window in which you're supposed to submit an invoice, the invoice has to be on their form, and everything has to be done by fax, even questions about payment. They will ignore email and phone calls. And if you don't submit the invoice properly within 90 days, they will not pay you.
When I first started out, I stupidly took two signings from them because I didn't know any better. It took a while for me to get paid, but they did pay eventually because I took their fax-only policy seriously - daily faxes, growing in size each day, for about 2 weeks. They finally asked me to stop and sent a check a few days later - and I'm sure they only did that to make me go away.
That was the ONLY time I ever worked for them, and I'm probably one of the lucky ones.

Don't know them...when a company calls I try and look them up while on the phone, but that's not always possible.
All I can say is that so far every company I've done a signing for has paid me, as agreed. So far, so good.

And if you want to keep it that way, you should never do another signing for SOX again. Don't be foolish and ignore what everybody here is telling you, it's certainly not by accident that SOX has the reputation that they do.

Re: SOX,per BBB
Complainants allege they agree to provide Notary Public services for this company; however the company fails to pay them as agreed upon. Some Notaries complain that they repeatedly sent invoices for payment in accordance with instructions provided, but received no payment in return. Other Notaries report excessive delays in receiving payment, or receiving only partial payments for services rendered without explanations for deductions. Most complainants allege difficulty contacting company personnel to resolve payment issues. The company responds to most complaints by stating that complainants failed to follow the required procedures in the submission of their invoices for payment or that the complaint is invalid. In most cases, the company asked that invoices be re-submitted or, stated that they would pay for services rendered. In some cases, the company responds by stating the original invoices were never received, explaining that some of the invoices were not past due and would be paid according to the company's schedule, or by indicating the customer is billing them for more than the agreed upon amount. Some notaries state that despite the company's offer of payment, it was not received. Company has also responded to notaries by stating if they filed or do not retract a previously filed complaint with the Better Business Bureau; they would not be paid for services rendered.

i did a signing for them about a week ago, before I took the signing I expressed my concerns also as I had a real difficult time getting paid in the past. The girl I talked to, i think it was donna in accounting said she had taken over the accounts payable and the last one there had everything messed up. I was assured that I will be paid, she said send her the invoice directly. so I did. She also stated that if I had any unpaid invoices to send her as much info as I can as she will see about getting me paid.
I will post back when I get paid, and how long it takes, hopefully! So any of you they have money due call them and ask for it,

I just cancelled an assignment from them for two days from now. They seemed a bit fishy when they didn't have contact info on their emails and confirmation.
I told them I was cancelling because of their history of non-payment. They immediately replied that they can't find that I worked for them before...hmmm. Guess they already knew me as fresh meat!!!
