Serina, Please contact Kathy Walters at your local sos office. Her specific # is 802-828-3287. I spoke with her this morning and she is going to research this but says that as far as she knows, Vermont is still an attorney only state, meaning notaries cannot notarize mortgage loan docs. Please check with her before you do anymore closings. It will save you a lot of problems.

"notaries cannot notarize mortgage loan docs"
Well, if notaries can't notarize, then who can?

That there is funny!
IMO, OP has way too much free time on her hands. Glad I am not her neighbor.

Notaries can not do purchase closings in Vermont, but can do refinances. I have been this for many years, and have spoken to Kathy Waters many times on different issues.

It looks to me as though there are a number of Notaries that are members of this site. In looking at the background of a few, only one member that I looked at was an attorney. Many have stated the years they have been conducting closings and some include an estimate of the number of loans closed. Luana, perhaps you should look at this and other websites and see if it isn't just Serina doing this. It may be appropriate to revisit the issue with the SOS. Just my two cents...

I'm more curious (a) why OP even cares...she's in VA; and (b) why she's singled out Serina.
