WORSE signing I EVER had!!!

It started July 26, 2010. I get a call asking if I would take a signing and be there in 10 mins. Supposedly their notary canceled at the last minute. They said they had docs already to go. I declined as I had another signing I was heading to. They begged me and asked when I could make it. I told them after my signing I was free. So they accepted. Then 30 mins later I get a call back saying they were going to have to postpone it till tomorrow. No prob with me.

So the next day, July 27, I get docs and call the BO to confirm our time. He says ok. Our meet up was 530. At 5pm the BO calls and asks if I can push it back to about 600-615 as he is just leaving his office. Ok not a problem. He lived about 5 mins away from me. I had another signing at 830 which was an extra 2 mins away from his home. So that gives me enough time since I had both signing docs printed and ready to go.

I show up at the BO house at 630, had a bit of an issue getting into his gated community. So I get to him home and I was not prepared for what I was about to experience as my WORSE signing EVER!!!!

Off the bat, BO starts talking about how this loan has been a nightmare for him. He discussed how the loan procedure and application has been redraw, wrong docs, numbers not adding up, matching what was told to him etc etc. Then he talked about the notary who was originally assigned to his original loan closing which was supposed to have taken place July 25, 2010. He mentioned the notary did not speak good English and he had trouble understanding her. He started talking about how he didn’t like foreigners. He used semi vulgar language and was very loud. He was drinking beer during his signing. He said he had to calm his nerves after all the hoopla of this previous week that everything went wrong with his loan.

So he was doing all this talking while I was filling out my notary journal. He then asked me if I knew any of the people he dealt with, who hired me, am I an employee of the Mortgage Company or title company etc etc. So then we get down to the HUD-1 and BAAAAM! Already he is pissed with the numbers. He goes to get his HUD-1 that was emailed to him and other loan docs. So he started comparing the docs. Calls his loan officer and the guy explained and tells him the reason for some of the numbers. Supposedly he is being charged more because his loan did not originally close on July 26, so now the BO thinks he is being penalized. The loan officer assures him that is not the case and they pushed back his first payment to October instead of September. So BO feels a bit more at ease. So we signed all the papers.

While we were signing papers, the BO starts to talk about how his home was almost foreclosed on because his mortgage company didn’t auto debit his account. So for 5 months his home was not paid on. He said he didn’t know and was wondering why he was getting calls saying his home was going into foreclosure. He said his wife handled the checking account. She said she didn’t notice and just figured everything was ok. (you should’ve seen my inner face, I had a screw face in amazement and the story they were telling me) Oh to add, he had a VERY high position in a company. He was the VP. His home was in a gated community, and it was huge, not a mansion but it was $850K home 6 bed 4 bth 3 car garage, expensive and impressive furniture and all his wife did was shop.

Ok so now after all this talking he did, drinking during the signing; I was about 20 mins late to my next signing. The other BO understood. I had one more signing to go to after them which I didn’t get to until 10pm. Luckily all the other BO were pretty understanding about my lateness.

Oh this story doesn’t end there......

August 4, I get a call from the signing service that hired me for the abovementioned loan closing. Get this....the title company somehow scanned the documents in and cut off the signatures of the BO's. WHAT???? So I’m tasked with going back out to the BO's house and have him resign everything EXCEPT the docs with the notary section. So the explanation was the already notified the BO and he is aware and they just need me to confirm a time to get these docs signed and shipped back. So I’m getting paid my original fee as it will be considered the title mistake. Ok cool no problem.

Call BO and O-M-G he is not aware, he is livid!!! He starts questioning me about WTF is going on and no one called and told him anything. He said he spoke to his Loan officer a couple days ago and he was told everything was ok and the loan has already funded. Well I tell him I’m not aware but Title said they need him to resign docs because of their mistake. He finally agrees to a time, August 5, 630.

Aug. 5 6pm BO calls and says he will be late and that his wife is there but he will be there later. Ok So I show up at 7pm. Soon as I walk in he asks me what happen and what was I told. I go through the whole phone call I went through earlier with the Signing service. Luckily the package was smaller. So we sit down as I'm filling out the Notary journal, I let him look over his loan package......BAAAAAM!!!! The payment dates now said September 1 instead of October. So he pulls out the loan docs he signed last week and the documents DON'T match up. He is pissed!!!

So we call the signing service guy who hired me, put him on speakerphone. BO assaults him about not knowing what’s going on and that no one called him and informed him, he was taken aback when I called him. Then we mentioned the wrong dates across the board. The guy put us on hold, he came back and said so-so said just cross out and put the correct dates and then initial next to each correction, the guy on the phone puts us on hold. The BO thinks this is not something we need to do. He asks for my professional opinion, I shake my head and just shrug my shoulders and said I don’t think that’s the right thing to do but if they said its ok.... so the guy comes back on the phone and says so-so confirmed it was ok. The BO asked what is this person’s number, so he calls her and puts her on speakerphone (so now we have a conference call going on). The lady from Title tells him yes he can correct the docs date and initial. She also states that the docs shouldn’t have changed and with the signing this 2nd time around wouldn’t void the first docs (smh), so the BO is not completely on board with this idea. The guy and lady are adamant is ok to do it this way. So the BO gives in and hangs up the phone with the two people. So we go back to the signing. I told him if he wasn’t fully comfortable with this then don’t sign. He said he will sign because he didn’t want to screw up his loan which has already funded.

He called his loan officer and told him the situation. He was clueless about what was going on. He said the loan already funded so obviously something had to have been correct the first time. So he wasn't sure wth was going on. None of us were. So BO signs. He asked me if I can copy all the docs with his signature and bring it back to him. I say sure. I leave after being there for 2 hours (again). I tell the BO, I’m sorry for this ordeal and this is the first time I ever seen something like this. I had told the BO I was going on vacation tomorrow. So he wished me a very good vacation.

Oh do you think that was the end of this story? You thought wrong....

On Aug 6 at 11am I was awoken of my phone ringing. I didn’t answer. I checked the phone and realized this number has been calling me since 9am. I didn’t hear my phone ring till 11am, so I check the voicemail and its Title with an urgent message. A woman said to scrapped the docs, they are not to go out and for me to call them back ASAP. So I get up and my phone rings again its from Title, the lady telling me NOT TO SEND OFF DOCS, they have to be scrapped and they will have to redraw docs. I said ok no problem. 30 mins later, I get a call from signing service asking me if I sent the docs out and what the tracking number was. I proceeded to tell him the phone call I got earlier, well he wasn’t aware of the phone call and he said he would call Title to figure out what was going on. So I’m up walking around in amazement of what is going on, an hour later I get a call from the BO, he is just beyond pissed. I can’t even imagine a word of how he felt. He is asking me what is going on. I tell him I know about as much maybe less than he knows. He goes on about the whole situation. I get a call from the Title asking me to go back out and have him resign docs. I told them I was on my vacation which started today but I will go back out. The Title rep says the BO considers me family since I’ve been to his house often in the last week. So I drive back to my home and wait for docs to show up, I call BO and ask when is a good time to come back out. SS calls me I tell them that I’ve been asked to go back out and have the guy sign documents. So I guess Title didn’t inform them. So SS says ok. So now I’m directly hired by Title.

So while I’m waiting for docs to show up, I take a couple more signings, one fore today and the other for Saturday. So I go to BO house 830pm. I ended up spending 3 hours at his home. We looked over all the documents from the last 2 signings. He was going through every document with a fine tooth comb (I don’t blame him), we had Title on the phone, they claim they fired the other Title company and she talked about how stupid and incompetent the other Title Co was. So Title tells BO the 3rd sets of documents are identical to the first set. BO asked how he can be sure; the documents have already been screwed up. Title states that as far as she knows the documents are identical but she can’t be 100% sure and that he would just have to trust her. He doesn’t. He is hesitant, but he signs eventually but not after telling her if anything is screwed up he will sue. He already had his Attorney call Title Attorney, so they had already worked something out but he was still skeptical.

So finally the documents are signed. Its 11pm on August 6 when I’m heading out. He mentions my vacation and asked how that was going; I told him I came off vacation to get these docs signed. He apologizes and mentions I should be compensated nicely for my troubles; I assure him I have tripled my fee just for this mishap, since now I lost a day and I can’t get it back.

So that ends my story.

Just curious - who is going to pay you for the Third signing since the TC hired you directly?

"I told him I came off vacation to get these docs signed." Well you went to the moon and back for this borrower. I am sure he is happy with you and so is Title. Most people would have shined on the Title CO. I hope vacation will go a lot smother next year.
