still havent recieved the docs.
I am somewhat new to this with only about 20 signings under my belt but for the most part they all have gone off without a hitch. I was asked by Speedy title service to complete a signing at 5Pm today. As of right now its 3:53 and have not recieved the docs. I conmtacted them and was told I will get them within the hour. it will take me over 30 min to ge t to the persons house. At what point do i tell them to stick it and call the customer and explain I dont have the docs or I have to be late.

Which " Speedy" are you going to do this for?
You may want to use the time you're waiting for docs to check signing central on the company you were hired by.......one good " Speedy" and one not so good......are listed there, check it out, it could save you some grief later on........

I don't think there's any issue that's more important then payment issues.

Speedy Title is anything but speedy when it comes to payment. Did you do a Search on them b4 accepting work? If you go to the Signing Central blue tab above, click on it and scroll down to Speedy and read the comments about them. In the meantime, I'd call the borrower now and give them a heads up. let them know you haven't received their docs yet and find out if their schedule is flexible this evening. (assumuming yours is all well) Good Luck

This is why I have drop-dead times...
I know several here disagree with me on this, and that's cool... but for me, I refuse to be held captive by these companies and for the vast majority of situations there is NEVER an excuse for late docs.
When I'm on the phone with them, and in my confirmation, I tell them the docs have to be to me at least 4 hours before the appointment or I reserve the right to turn it back to them or call the borrower and reschedule, and it shall not be at my cost if docs have to be redrawn. Not my problem.
It works well for me.
The way i see it, they shouldn't be calling to look for a notary until the docs are ready to go. Unless it's a situation where you're a regular... I have one local TC I do that for. They know my terms. When they have a set of docs, they just email them to me and say, "We need these back by X...." No mess, no fuss, no babysitting, and they always get them to me at least 12 hours in advance.... and they pay me whatever I invoice them. I drop the docs off in person to their office, and they write a check for me right there on the spot when I deliver. I LOVE them, and i will bend over backwards for them. If they have an emergency, then I know it's an unavoidable one because it's not their usual way of working. I happily take those, even if it's last minute... but then, they pay me extra for that.

Speedy Closings is an ss, not a tc. I've done work for them
but tired of having to chase my payment. They did always pay, but it was an endless hassle & always lots of excuses. Late docs are often the norm for this industry, especially at EOM. This business requires a lot of flexibility. If you have other appts., most of us will move them around if we have to. Also, call the borrowers & alert them that docs are running late & find out how flexible they are for time. You'll get the hang of this as times goes on. Good luck.

I would give the job back based on their long standing poor payment reputation alone. Someone posted on the numbers forum that she is owed from Oct 2009 and Ron told her that if she wanted her money, she would have to sue him.
