Borrower showed me the door
I went to do a signing tonight. Mr. borrower asked me to explain why he was being charged loan origination. I told him that we needed to call the lender for that question. He said well, they told me that you would explain that to me. He said if you can't then there is the door. He was quite rude about it. I packed up my things. He said now you deal with the problem. I turned around and left quickly. Last thing I said was..the lender will be calling you.

What a weirdo. "Now you deal with the problem?" What the heck is that supposed to mean? Its HIS loan, not yours. How uncomfortable.

I think I would've told him, while walking out, "good luck with keeping your rate".
I think what you said was perfect. Seems he may have already been pissed off with the whole loan process, and of course, since the only physical being these BO's see are us, he's gonna take it out on you. So not your fault here. IMO.

He probably thought that I would get blamed for it not closing. It was a new company for me too. Hopefully I will get paid print and trip fee like they promised. You know how that goes.

It's called throw the notary under the bus. Evidently,
there was more to it that you probably weren't aware of. There were probably a host of other problems & they decided to make you the scapegoat. Now the LO can say it was the notary's fault. That's happened to me once in eight yrs. Last winter, BO got upset when I gave her a blue ink pen to sign with. LO wasn't available to confirm that blue ink was needed, so she told me she wanted another notary. It was as simple as that. Just be glad (as I was) that they kicked you out at the beginning. You would been playing DDS & it probably would have taken HOURS! If you're gonna shoot me, shoot me at the beginning - QUICKLY!

independent third party
I have been able to turn situations around with borrowers that are disgruntled by explaining that I am an independent third party, working for the title company. Whenever a borrower says "you people", or something to that affect, I immediately say that and it usually calms the situation alittle. That is so uncomfortable though...you did the right thing!

No need to EVER EXPLAIN! I have never been asked to leave but if and when it happens..I hope I'll be able to predict what will happen from my initial conversation when I call to confirm. That is absolutely a waste of time and I hope you get paid you full fee for the inconvenience....If you don't get paid, let us know who the hiring party was please.

Re: Borrower chewed me out today too!
Remember..many people are upset about the loan process and when they see us they unleash on us because we are the only person they see. It is a fine art to either calm them or make that decision to leave..or be thrown out.
I had a signing today with 12 signers and one of them chewed my as...off and I told him not to shoot the messenger. He calmed down after he called title and they chewed me out for their error..I wanted to leave but being the professional eventually the signer did calm down and ack that I was a third party..
He did not apologize but thats ok he looked and sounded like a pia in front of me and the rest of the people!

" no problems till he saw the hud"
Start with the HUD so you don't waste your time.

Re: " no problems till he saw the hud"
LynnNC is absolutely right! HUD first. The HUD sets the tone for the remaining of the signing.

Re: " no problems till he saw the hud"
Yes, I always start with the HUD - but my question is, why did the BO not see a GFE / HUD ahead of the signing? I run into this way too often!

Ali/Il as you can see you are not the only one who receives this kind of disrepect from the borrower. We all get a similar reponse sometimes.
My one for this year is "why do I need you" in response to a question that only the TC/LC could answer. It went downhill from there.
Fortunately the TC/LC on this understood. They told me this borrower was "difficult".
So don't let it get you down.
