Computer blinking off like it wants to change the
screen resolution.
It did this several times. When it happened it would stay dark like it went into hibernation.
I turn it back on and it changes resolutions, and then back off moments later.
I restarted it and then set the resolution to the better one. It's held up for five minutes or so, now.
Running Vista on a Dell Inspiron 15. It came with Vista. Haven't felt the need to update to Windows 7.
It's under an extended warranty. Thoughts?

***Thoughts?***
Keep it away from the eggnog. Worked for me.

Could it be your monitor? I replaced my computer (it's an HP with Vista) in 2009 but didn't replace my monitor. Last spring the monitor went out. It just started blinking repeatedly on and off. I ended up buying a new monitor, which I guess I should have done when I bought the computer. I haven't upgraded to Windows 7 either, although I have the CD.

You have the dreaded gremlins.
(Sometimes upgrading is a good thing. Just say'in.)
Best o'luck, and Jolly Hollidays, Brenda.
[I'm watching "As Good As It Gets." Nicholson and Keaton - the title says it all.]
Hey, you ever tried a Mac?

Re: You have the dreaded gremlins.
I had the same thing happen a few months ago and it was a "hitchback virus". We think it snuck in through an email and it took forever to get rid of it.

Susan, "As Good as it Gets"
Was Greg Kinnear and Helen Hunt with Jack...almost the same as Keeton.
I love that movie! LOVE IT!
I wish Helen Hunt had more good roles like this; she's one of my favorites.
Merry Christmas, Susan.

Oh yes, now I see - I confused that title with
"Something's Got to Give." How stupid of me.
Thank you so much for the correction, and Merry Christmas to you too.

I would start with a scan in safe mode and when in safe mode check all your monitor/video card settings. Then if everything looks ok, change it back to normal and see if it does it again. This also could be your video card acting up. You might want to go into Computer Devices too and see if any hardware/software is conflicting with eachother. If you can, try to go to www.computerhope.com A site dedicated to helping folks with computer problems.

Whatever it was has been fixed by a turn off/on.
I appreciate the comments. I will check out that site, Lisa! Thank you.

Brenda, haven't read the other posts, BUT you may have a bug
that is a virus, waiting to happen....the one and only time that has happened to me, I later found out that a virus infected my computer and kaplooey...harddrive fried. If I were you, run a virus checker, spam thingamabob, and whatever else to make sure you don't have a virus...
