Hate Being In This Postition
SS Says no funds over $100 to be collected unless approved. Must be certified
Call from closing table. SS doesn't answer after hours number, doesn't return call.
Borrower going out of town tomorrow AM so no way to overnight the closing costs. Has cashier check.
Now what?

Take the Cashiers Check... it's always about getting the money.

Don't we all! But it's in those kinds of spots where we need a bit of good old fashioned common sense.
Ask yourself what your options are and what are the consequences of each option. Then if you're truly not able to get an answer from anyone, you go with whichever option has the best probability of producing the desired result. Unfortunately, a magic wand isn't standard issue with our notary commissions.

Good to hear you all agree with what I did. Took the cashiers check. Figured it was more important that their loan closed. Hopefully the SS will agree and pay me for my time. Don't feel like I was left with any other choice.

Are you sure it was no personal checks over $100? Apparently the borrowers were told to have the certified check. Sounds like the SS was "getting in the way" of their clients directions

I was wondering the same thing Zana. Who are they to approve funds? Sending the check back is the logical choice here.
And yet, just another example of having a middle man in there to confuse things.
