How to handle non paying companies???
I realize that doing signings as a notary has its pluses and minuses. We as notaries take huge risks when agreeing to do a job and not expect payment for thirty and in some cases four months thereafter. I have been fortunate that I haven't been stiffed since entering into this field; however, I have a situation where I did a closing for a company that I've never dealt with before in July and after countless emails, telephone calls, and empty promises from this person, I've yet to receive payment.
My question (all things being equal that the job is done as agreed upon) is there some type of legal agreement available that companies sign promising to pay once the job is complete or any suggestions how to protect yourself against being stiffed?

One of your legal remedies would be to take them to Small Claims Court. Even if you/they sign a legal binding contract, it doesn't mean they have to pay (although it may be easier to collect) I suggest you read this board, and SC carefully. Then do not take any signing jobs from anyone with less that a 5 star rating. JMO

You may have done this, but did you send them to collections? OldDebts.com has worked for me.

I disclose I'll file suit, and follow through. Most of the
time, they cough up. Then, their toast.
