I have a question about printers
I know it's your favorite subject...
I apologize for this but..here goes - My old HP with duplexer is getting old and tired (like me) and I'm watching for a deal on e-bay. It occurred to me that I think I've only used the duplexing feature once in 4.5 years.....
How *mandatory* do you think duplex capability is? And I don't mean you use the duplex feature by choice for borrowers' copies - how many times has a hiring party told you the docs MUST be printed duplex?
TIA..

I've never used duplex for loan purposes, it's just is a feature on most business quality printers today.

I'm sure you know what I'm getting at here
Can I get away with a printer without the duplexing feature....from experience I think I can..

For loan documents? Never.
I have two duplexing laser printers (one monochrome one color) and I use the duplexing feature quite often for other work.
But if all you're printing are loan documents, then the duplexer isn't necessary, IMO.

I print all confirmation letters and directions
in the duplex mode.
I don't print the docs in this manner, but as Cheryl said. it can save a loan signer a bunch of money by printing the borrower's copies in the duplex mode.
The obvious problem with printing the borrower's docs in a duplex method is if you have to swap out a mistake and substitute the borrowers copies in their place.
On another subject the dual tray printer will quickly pay for itself. In Calif the difference between the cost of legal and letter (Sam's Club, Costco) is over $16 per case.
3-4 years ago I bought a 2nd tray from Ebay for my Brother 8860 DN for under $100 and paid for it within the first 6 months with the difference between the cost of letter & legal.

No one has ever asked me to print duplex. They probably think we don't have the capibilites.

We would use 1/2 the paper if we printed duplex. What
a concept. Shipping charges would be less. Sounds like a win win to me. Has anyone ever asked if this was a possiblity?
But... I had docs overnighted to me one time (only) and they docs were duplexed. It is kind of confusing which way to put the paper down on the stack that is signed. I kept flipping them making sure I had the right side down.

Once
It was a long time ago and I'm not sure who the lender was. I think it was Quicken. It was a very small package.

I use the duplex, and draft printing feature, when I print the borrowers' copies. Saves a ton of paper and toner.
In the early days of this business, I sometimes received the deed of trust printed duplex, but not any more.

I have 4 laser printers, 5 counting my multi, none have duplex and have never needed it.

<<<..........how many times has a hiring party told you the docs MUST be printed duplex?>>>
Never has any hiring party required me to print duplex.....although only one time did a company want certain docs printed letter size and other docs printed in legal but they sent separate attachments in letter and legal sizes. Other than that, I have only single tray laser printers and print in all legal size.

I've seen two loan packages in eight years that requested - but didn't require - duplex printing. They were for the same regional bank, which is no longer in existence. I'll never forget them, because they included instructions for how to print the docs on a printer without duplex printing - and it was a localized pain... I ended up printing them on one side, as that was before I had a duplex printer. I thought it was impractical for a variety of reasons.
These days, I print confirmations with the duplex feature and sometimes print directions on the back of the last page. It reduces the amount of paper I use - and the volume in my files. Is it necessary? I don't think so. Is it a nice feature to have? You bet.

Never. I don't think it's accepted in the industry. n/m
