Is manipulation of SC running rampant?

I was wondering if the person who gave Premier Signing Services
Reynoldsburg, OH 4 stars and commented the following "for 6 signings, av pay time is 28 days, slowest 37,quickest 7" would be willing to out themselves? I've noticed in the past and present that there are a few that set up fake accounts or have family members set up accounts in order to counter the bad ratings their SS is getting by giving themselves 4 star ratings. I have been getting a few phone calls from Premier which I will not take do to personal bad experience and current ratings on SC.

The next time they call I decide to check them out and see if things have changed. Nothing but 1 and 2 stars except that latest dated 12/2 which is the rating I stated above.

Is this fake or have they changed their ways?

I'm not just picking on Premier.

There has got to be a way to stop this. Are these fake accounts and ratings becoming the norm for poorly rated SC or is it just a coincidence with me?

I try not only reading the rating but forum discussions also. But when I am on the road or in the middle of something sometimes the star rating is all I have time for. If these poorly rated SC are going to take over our rating system and manipulate it to their benefit SC will not be a reliable source of info for those on the go.

I think this is reason enough to figure out if this is being done and how it can be stopped.

Not sure about it running rampant but I have noticed

it too - IMO companies should not have the option to rate or comment - 2-star companies rating themselves 4-5 stars totally skews the rating and defeats the whole purpose of our use of SC..

When I view company info in SC I don't put a lot of stock in the ratings from posters in the same state as the company is located...especially if those ratings are totally opposite of the majority of the other ratings posted by notaries. Show me eight 1-star ratings and comments across the country and three 4-5 star ratings in the company's state, I'm relying more on the 1-star ratings. Guess I rely more on "consider the source"...

But that's me and my opinion.

Re: Not sure about it running rampant but I have noticed

There is another reason to not give as much credence to those in state: they have better collection recourse than those out of state. I also give great weight to comments on the forum, especially the recent ones. IMO, both need to be checked as well as PM's to someone who may have had an issue to see if it has been resolved satisfactorily.

I wonder if adding companies

or posting comments to signing central should be limited to Rotary Rotary's Premier members. It may work to limit fake postings. Premier members have a little more skin in the game. Would a fake poster be willing to give credit card, Pay Pal info to Harry just to tweak ratings in Signing Central?

Probably is not a popular idea, but could work.

I think Harry should limit to post comments on SC to only premier and ONLY notaries NOT signing companies.

"ONLY notaries NOT signing companies."

A problem is that some signing companies are also notaries and don't let us know when they hire us that they are "just a notary" and not really a signing company. I can think of a few immediately....I'm sure most others can as well.

I like that idea, and I’d add only those with actual experience, good or bad could post. No hearsay.

limited to Rotary Rotary's Premier members...

I would pony up and join then. I believe this would add immense credibility to the site. (Not to imply that there is no credibility.) I am currently in the process of trying to collect from a signing service with conflicting ratings. I also tried to add a couple of "companies" to signing central after I found out they were "just notaries". I've emailed Notary Rotary about those companies and they still have not been added.

Re: I wonder if adding companies

I would take this even further, and limit access to paying members.

NotRot is the best NSA forum on the web (I have such a wonderful time in Just Politics, tilting against opponents such as Glenn), and I pay to help sustain it. Making SC a privilege of membership seems quite reasonable to me.

Re: I wonder if adding companies

The only problem with that Hugh is I believe (opinion-no proof) the majority of people burned by deatbeat companies are the inexperienced, and new to the business, and they may not be paying members (yet) But they do need to know the deadbeats, so hopefully we can weed them out.

Re: I wonder if adding companies

I am not a paying member and I have 13 years experience as an NSA. I am NOT a paying member because the information I get from this site is not as reliable as it could/should be. I would be much more willing to pay for membership if there were tighter controls over the ratings in SC. At the risk of being flamed, I will add that I only have problems collecting from the companies that say they found me on Notary Rotary. I am a member of the dreaded XYZ Company, but I have never had a collection problem from a company that told me they found me on that site. Premier Members, take a poll. I would start the pool, but as I said, I’m not a member, yet. I would gladly join if the ratings in SC were more reliable. OK, I have my bulletproof vest on…start firing.

The business I get from this site,

the prices on the various notary supplies that are a little lower for Premium members, plus the exercise of going toe-to-toe with Hugh (yes, I know I could do that for free) on the JP forum not only keeps what's left of my mind working, it's well worth the Premium membership. Harry pays big bucks to advertise the site and keep it on the first page of search engines, those of us who benefit from that should kick in ........

It would also be nice to see the ratings over a "rolling year". By this I mean, just the last twelve months. We would be able to see just what's happening lately and not a two or three year average. My .02

"comments to signing central should be limited to Rotary Rotary's Premier members"

I've never received a closing or contact from any company from this website which also has different fees for different people or locations in throughout country. Sorry, that you think only those with premier membership have anything worthwhile or value to add to SC. I will concede to your wishes since I'm not a premier member and refrain from posting any info concerning companies in SC or the forum. Better yet, I'll just refrain from using the website at all anymore. Good luck to everyone, I'm done!

As a fellow FL notary, I have followed your posts and learned a lot from them over the last few years. I hope you will reconsider and realize some people just can't help themselves.

"...some people just can't help themselves." Pa-lease.

dtf is having a hissy fit. Conversely, dtf is leaving. Over one thread?

We'll see.

But I'll add: The excuse, "some people", i.e. anyone who disagrees on many and diverse levels with dtf; and "can't help themselves," as somehow being ~maliciously so~ ? Well, that's just a weak lie, a thing untrue at its core.

As a Grandpa used to say, not even looking up when a door slammed, because he'd heard a *lot* of slammed doors, "Don't let the screen-door hitcha where the Good Lord splitcha, there child. You're tummy'll bring you home, and remember your chores, God Bless." Then, he'd nod and smile, and if you caught it, a wink.

All due respect, desktopfull but you sound like

someone irritated you and now you are going to take the ball and go home. Please reconsider.

I just threw the idea out there in as an idea to clean up SC. As it stands right now anyone can sign up with phony names and post whatever they want for free. It's a different story if a person has to give a credit card number, or a PayPal account. Just like a teenager that has to pay for their own car. When their money is involved, the car is taken better care of. Postings mean more to me from people that put their actual name and profile out there when they make a post. But I don't mean any disrespect to those who choose to use and post on the site without linking their profile. It was just a suggestion.

you bit a sour apple or are having a rotten day.. Spit that piece out and get on with life here at NotRot. These are all just musings by a few, nothing that was put into stone or anything like that, therefore, nothing to get your panties in a wad about.

Of course, I am more concerned about you being over on JP helping to keep Hugh and his acolytes in check.

Re: Harry, just throwing contemplation out here!

Why it is that Notary Rotary has the notorious reputation that it is against SS and TCs? You will find the same comments on the other sites as you find here, and they do not have the same reputation.

Could it be?

1. Everyone tells the SS and TCs that they found the bad info here?

2. Notary Rotary has the only star rating system; therefore it is easier to look there instead of searching for the name.

3. With the other sites, the remarks are listed under name headings and are not mixed in with the other topics of the day and therefore not always up front and in your face?

4. There is no place for them to respond?

5. Specific people making specific remarks?

All or any could contribute to the reputation and also contribute to the possible lack of calls some may experience from here (especially if they are the ones making the remarks)!
