Why have account?

I've seen notaries saying that the company they sent the docs to did not pay for the shippng. The bill is then charged to the notaries account. My question is why have an account? I have 4 title companies that I do work for close by and they give me any supplies I need.

I have an account because I ship other items besides Loan Docs and the rates are much cheaper if you have one (account).

I NEVER give my account number out so as to avoid any

double or unwanted billing. When shipping docs back, either prepaid labels or account numbers are given to ship the docs back.

Had 1 incident with UPS back when I started - paid the fee and closed that shipping account.

I don't have one...

General Notary and loan signings are my only business endeavors - I have no need to have an account - airbills are either provided by the hiring party or I can get them from The Mailbox Store or UPS Store in town - I always get an account number from the hiring party.

I have a FEDEX account because I can print my airbills instead of completing the paper forms. Also, sometimes the shipping centers in my area are not generous with the legal envelopes. They will not give you extra supplies. I have never had a problem with Fedex or UPS charging my account. They always bill the receiver.

I have commercial accounts with both FedEx and UPS because I do a lot of shipping in my other "notary" business. When doing real estate transactions, I always get the account number from the title company (or whomever the documents will be shipped to) and specify "bill recipient" when I generate the airbill. I've only been billed once and that was due to my own error. With the new online software systems in use today, the recipient's account number can be verified prior to printing the label.

I know some signing agents are saying that they've been bilked many times because the client company goes under. Last year, that was a bit of a problem for some. But now, there aren't as many companies going under so the chances of having to foot the bill is getting less and less. Fortunately, for whatever reasons, I never have had a problem with payment being refused for any reason by the recipient.

I have both a FedEx and a UPS account. I ALWAYS put my name on any shipping label as the sender (if I don’t get a pre-printed label) I WANT to show that I sent the package.
I have NEVER had a problem with anyone charging me for the shipping fee.

I have both FedEx and UPS accounts and never had a problem with them about 3rd party billing. Just make sure that you have the recipient's account number verified and you won't have a problem.

Re: Ditto!

I have a UPS account strictly so that I can order legal envelopes. We are rural here and the nearest UPS store is 15 miles away, so unless Im in that area I can't get supplies. When I do stop there they give me at most 5 envelopes and I can use those in 1 day..

I never use my name or account # when returning docs. I had an issue last year with UPS charging me for 3 packages and it was a nightmare trying to get the charges dropped.
Got 1 drooped but it was such a hassle that I just paid the rest to get rid of the hassles. Never was reimbursed from the TC they promised to pay me back but another hassled and I was so tired of it..Chalked it up to a learning experience!

I had used a hand written label with the shippers # and name but..they traced them back to me because on the bottom of the label that I ordered UPS had my account # on the bottom. So now I never order those..
