renewing my commission
It is time to renew so I am comparing prices and can't believe the range. The Notary Assoc of PA offers $115 and that includes the education. PAN is $334 with online course. I am a bit afraid if I go cheap now I will pay the price later. Any suggestions?
BTW: Notary Association of Pennsylvania, Co does not appear to be an Assoc like PAN but rather a Notary service and bonding company.

In CT, it is done by the state, including renewals. $75 is the fee, if I remember correctly.
If you changes addresses or whatever, they charge $5 I think for making that change.

How about renewing through Notary Rotary?
I'm not sure if they offer this service for Pennsylvania, but I used them to renew my Florida notary commission and was very satisfied with the results.

I'll call NotRot in the a.m but can't find anything that says they provide that service for PA.

Notary Assoc of PA is affiliated with the NNA and you will be enrolled as a member for one year with your application for renewal. The last time I renewed my commission I specifically asked NOT to be enrolled as a member of NNA and they complied with my wishes.

Can't you renew directly? Why would you want to pay someone to do what you can do yourself. I need to renew in IN this month and all they require is the application, a $5 filing fee and proof of a $5000 bond.

PAN is an excellent place to renew with if you wish not to do it yourself. Although, It is not hard to do it yourself . Just print off the app from the state site and fill it in, find out the address of your senator and send them the form to sign (include an instruction letter) and have them return it to you, and then add a check and send it off to the SOS. That takes care of the commission, and then all you need to do is to buy the bond and take a course from someone.
Found all this out the hard way after NNA lost my application and blamed it on the Senators office!

Re: Forgot to add that you need to take the course six-month
period immediately preceding the application, so that needs to be done before sending in your app to the SOS.

I recently renewed my commission through Atlantic Bonding Company, out of Phila. I think for everything it cost me about $200. Didn't come with a membership to anything, but got what I needed. Let me know if you need any information about them.

Thank you all for your responses. There is the cost of the course plus $40 application fee, $30 bond, $20 stamp. I think I will probably do it myself because I can't afford to have somebody lose the letter to the Senator and I like to do my own follow through. Thanks for the input.

I guess I am lucky in that my senator has an office less then 10 minutes from my house. I just took the form and the girl in the office put his stamp to it. Didn't have to worry that someone would loose it. Check to see if your senator has a remote office near you, it could be worth the trip.

Do it yourself! I did it last time and while it is a bit of a process, at least you will get it done in time. I do NOT recommend the Notary Association of Pennsylvania. It's 2/8, my commission expires tomorrow, and I have yet to receive anything from NAP. I called this morning and from the attitude of the people there, they get a lot of complaints. I mailed in the paperwork/check on November 8. I told them as of the 10th I can't work in Pennsylvania and they had ZERO urgency at all.
