Check this out... from the NNA...

They've buried it.... but it's been published all the same:

http://www.nationalnotary.org/join/index.cfm?text=nsAgentMain

At the very bottom in italics:

"The NNA has eliminated the suggested fee schedule that previously appeared in this section and encourages all of its members to independently negotiate fees for their services based on the factors that apply to each member’s circumstances and particular assignments."

I have noticed a lot of fee amount requests lately. Don't they teach about price fixing in the NNA S certification course?

Not directly, no... Smile

But in the 6th edition (from 2007, which is the one they are selling as the most current) of the NSA guide, page 414, for example...it talks about recording fees in the journal for California:

"A California notary Signing Agent divides a $50.00 signing fee by six notarizations performed for the signing and enters $8.33 in the fee column for each notarization."

Have you stopped laughing yet?

Granted, this was published before they took down the "suggested fee schedule".

When they first came out the the infamous schedule, I ..

believe that it was with the good intentioned (albeit, IMO, questionably legal)
hope of setting a floor for signing fees. Cynics might believe that they hoped to
encourage certification by suggesing a higher fee for "Certified NSAs. Also recall
that they suggested an additional fee for edocs. Way back then, overnite dox were
the norm and edocs were the rare exception. This of course has reversed with overnite dox now being seldom used.
Unfortunately, as usually happens in such cases, TC/SS chose to regard it as a ceiling.
Glad that the suggested schedule is forever gone.

Yes, this is exactly what the DOJ investigation was about.

There were some major companies that took that fee schedule literally and wouldn't budge from it.
I'm among the cynics--especially with them promoting their cert/bgc criteria. I'm no longer a member because I think they hurt us more than they helped us.

Well...hopefully Bagger will take this as another

clue that the DOJ was serious. If not, maybe he'll get to talk to those nice DOJ agents soon.

Re: I asked the NNA

At the 2008 NNA Conference, I spoke to the executive director of the NNA about removing this schedule! told him that this was hurting us..I also followed up with a phone call.
At that time there were different thoughts about this schedule within the NNA, and that a committee had been formed to check into this! I know it has been removed for quite a while now! Thank goodness! I am not claiming to take credit for this..As many of us have tried to get this fee schedule. Just wanted to share my experience..I was also interviewed by the DOJ!
