Need advice on AntiVirus Purchase
My IT person suggested that I purchase 2010 AntiVirus with Antispyware. Are there any comments? I am having a problem recovering for a nasty virus and I want to avoid this as much as possible in the future.

Alice I have used the AVG free one, along with Ad-Aware and Malwarebytes and never had a problem. (I don't believe in paying for something you can get free as long as the free ones work well)

Sylvia, I had free AVG only, for years, and never had any problems. I did not know I could have more than one AntiVirus protection program at a time. See, I learn something new every time I post here at NR. Thanks !!!

I swear by Malwarebytes - an "in addition to" program
It kills what McAfee misses. Some of us have had to use it lately (can search) and it works.

I've had no problems either since I installed this one year ago.

After running Malwarebytes run Viper Rescue it does the trick, I was back up and running in 30 minutes after a nasty bug entered my computer.

I use Eset 32 NOD. It's costly for 3 computer & I wish I
had put AVG on my netbook. I definitely will in the future.

I have Eset Nod32 also, and love it.
I also use Malwarebytes and Spybot along with it.

I agree with Sylvia - AVG works great, and it's free. I also use ZoneAlarm for a firewall - also free. My experience has been that the stuff you have to pay for tends to be bloated, slows your system down, and can actually interfere with some programs. Norton Antivirus is one of the worst, and it can be difficult to remove when you don't want it anymore.
The free stuff usually does the simple job of protecting you against viruses without adding all the bells and whistles that the other guys want you to pay for. You don't need all that nonsense unless you're running a business with a lot of networked computers, and even then it's probably overkill....
Ultimately, regardless of what solution you choose, it's YOUR job to practice safe computer usage. No one gets a computer virus by accident - they get it because they clicked on a link, or opened an email attachment. Computer viruses don't just drift into your system, you have to do SOMETHING to enable them. It's kind of like dealing with vampires - you have to invite them in before they can do any harm...
