Not linking aka's to messages

Is there a way that we can see who is posting messages? A few years ago "anon" were eliminated, but there are so many people stirring up feelings on this board lately such as "Not_So_New" yesterday. How do we know they are not just a SS trying to influence others into taking lower fees. Don't get me wrong--I do signings for some WONDERFUL signing services; however, there are so many not-so-wonderful ones out there. Those are the ones that need to convince that low-ball fees are wonderful.

I can understand why some don't want their past messages to come up on the internet; however, maybe there can be a way for the Preferred members to check out who the poster is. (An extra benefit as being a Preferred member, perhaps?) We have the "who called me", maybe we can have "who posted this?" Harry??

BRAVO!!!
I for one think this board is for people that are NOTARIES. That are in business as notaries, or work in the lending, title, real estate, insurance, or other related business. Yes, this does include SS’s. But if you are a SS say so just like Sylvia, Tony, and others do. (not like “anotarygirl”) If one wants to read this board fine. BUT if one wants to contribute, and “Discuss Work” they should… 1/be a Notary Public, and… 2/ NOT be Anonymous.
Or I guess we can have anyone casually surfing the web from the prison library posting crap on this board?

Disagree. I , for one, choose not to link my profile

for a number or reasons.
I have been on this board as a paid member since it's inception ( and formerly on NASA), with the same screen name. Most of the old timers know who I am , but do not feel it is necessary to give the world access to my "secret identity"
As my screen name indicates, I am a guy and serve a large, urban area. IMO, that is sufficient info for a casual visitor.
Not advocating "trolling", but if you don't like what some unknown poster says, then
simply ignore it. Most of those folks are looking for recognition and like nothing better than
starting ( or adding to ) a thread with some outlandish comment and then receiving tons of responses.
We all know about opinions and the other thing that everyone has.
If you respect a poster based on past history , then you are free to consider what they say.
If not, then just go on the the next post.

Re: Disagree. I , for one, choose not to link my profile

Bob may I disagree?
I think your reasoning to be flawed. You are a Notary “Public” as such you are NOT anonymous. You are a commissioned officer of the State. You are in business, and a business that depends on you dealing directly with the public. You deal with the public every day. I’d guess thousands of people in Chicago have met you personally, and many paid for your service? If I chose to I could find out ‘your real name’ easily. So just what purpose does ‘hiding’ your identity serve here? I believe you’re a stand up guy that is not afraid to back up his opinions, and beliefs, so why hide?
As for me…. I ADVERTISE here, I want the public to know who I am, and how to find me.
I still say this board is for professionals that work in this business, and to “Discuss Work” here one should NOT be anonymous

Re: Disagree. I , for one, choose not to link my profile

I agree with Bob. One reason I don't link is because I don't need people nit-picking my profile if they don't like what I have say. I also didn't want people emailing me about my posts if they didn't like what I had to say, such as what Paul Gambs does, but with the PM feature that is now possible. One other reason used to be that I didn't want people clicking on my profile and inflating my "view" count, although I really don't pay attention to that number much anymore.

My 'profile' has been viewed more than three thousand times, I'd bet you (and Bob) have more than that? I think it matters little.
And I REALLY doubt in some disgruntled board viewer from Seattle is going to drive to VA and ‘stalk’ you. And if they were so determined don’t you think they could find you?

Re: Disagree. I , for one, choose not to link my profile

I have a profile up for those interested in knowing a little bit about who they might be hiring, not for posters to check me out. I am not an ol' timer so it is necessary for me to try to network with everyone who can bring me business. If I worked exclusively for one or two companies I wouldn't have to have a profile up but that's not the case for me.

I would like to see everyone's profile (the truth or not) which would allow me to decide whether or not I should expand my knowledge or share something I may know about with my peers.

I also respect those who choose not to show a profile. Anonymous posting does not add credibility to what you're posting in some cases. The ability to block certain posters from contacting you assures they stay civil on the forum if they're addressing you and all can see. IMO

I get a LOT of phone calls and email from people who call me as the direct result of something I've posted here at NotRot. Once in a while, it's other notaries, but it's usually Title Companies or Inspection companies -- those places that monitor the boards here. Trust me, people take notice!

By linking a profile, if someone wants to respond to something you've posted, they can get your contact info right away.

Also, as to your typos and whatever - there's probably only one out of 10 people who can spell "embarrassing" correctly as you just did - vision/typing isues aside - so you have nothing to worry about.

Additionally, as to the posting anonymous thread - your posts are always so well thought out, erudite, informative, well-written and spot-on, that I'd hire you in a minute, too. I wonder if this shows that businesses out there actually do value experienced, knowledgable people!? (Did I spell "knowledgable" right?)

You're joking, right? Before I got into the SA biz, I was a copy editor on a couple of large (not too large) daily newspapers, where it was my job, among other things, to catch embarrassing typos like "embarassing." I will admit that the longer I've been out of newspapers, the worse my spelling has become - I think that falls into the "use it or lose it" category. I do remember certain hints like: It takes an ass to put two ss in occasion, and it takes two asses to spell assassinate. Useless stuff like that .... I think it’s nice to know the best of us (I’m not including myself) can make unintentional mistakes. I just had to make an ‘emergency’ run to get the last page of a 1003 signed. (long story) It was initialed but not signed? Everything else was okay. This was presented by a NSA as experienced, and maybe more attuned to detail than I. She was just rushed……Moral…We all will and do make mistakes! Check the signed docs before you leave, no matter what.

One of the six gives no real info, the other five say it is an alternate spelling of knowledgeable and redirect to knowledgeable. The one is Wordnik which is kind of a Wiki site in that it is written and added to much like Wikipedia, only by writers, etc.

English is one of the hardest languages to learn and requires a lot of time and practice. Some of it just is plain ole memorizing - plurals really get funny
goose - geese
mouse - mice
horse - horses
No pattern to really follow on some of them at all.

Forum "alias" is the name you present to the forum when you post, but you're linked so if anyone wants to know any more about you they can. Forum "anonymous" - not linked so you're hidden.

"Would I be considered a forum alias or a forum anonymous" You use the alias mwm143 as your posted name - but you don't link so you're anonymous.

It's my opinion if you're gonna say it, be willing to own it.

I was trying to think of other forums wherein your complete information is a mandatory link. I couldn't but then again I don't visit a lot of forums. This forum is unique in that our profiles provide more information than you would expect to find in others so anonymity should be a choice of any participant here. It's as much the choice of any participant to respond to any post written.
