Pat..unless u REALLY need color, I would steer clear, the $$
of toner and replacement parts are high dollar.

I have a 13 year old HP inkjet that will print on both sides, but it's a software thing, not a printer duplex thing. You print one side, then manually re-feed the paper to print on the other side. All your HP inkjets will print on both sides in this manner as long as you choose it when you print. I don't know about other brands. HP is the only brand of inkjets I have used.
To my knowledge, there is not an inkjet that will duplex automatically. That seems to be something that is reserved for laser printers ... I could be wrong .... Just have never seen one.

Glenn, there are several color inkjets with built in duplexers at Newegg for less than $200. But, the users reviews are really mixed. I'd be concerned about the potential for colors running when stacking fresh two sided copies, but they must have solved that problem.

Well, that just goes to show you that I am falling behind on what is out there. I have never seen an inkjet with a built in duplexer at a brick and mortar store, not even Fry's, so I just assumed that they were not made. I can't see the reason. If you need duplexing, you usually need quantity so a color laser would be more efficient and cheaper per sheet. And you are correct. When I printed both sides with my inkjet, I always waited a while before I turned the paper over and printed on the other side. ..

Check out the HP Officejet Pro 8500. It is a print, fax, scan, & copy. It has a duplexer & document feeder. There are several versions & Staples will give you $50 for any printer traded in, even if it doesn't work.
