Snowing in the Panhandle

Can't believe we have snow, it is so weird looking out and see this white stuff coming down.

I'm looking out my window while cooking today and I just want all you northerners to know that your robins are safe down here - well, at least 3-500 of them. I have never seen so many at my house before. Last year found where they over-winter on a river not far from here - must have been a million (no kidding). Their song was deafening. Think I'll look there again this week-end....truly a sight to behold.

There is only 1 state that there is no snow on the ground

according to my weather guy (he just said this) that Hawaii is the only state without snow at the moment.

Actually, there is snow on Mauna Kea

on the big island. It is 13500 feet high and has snow on it year 'round.

Not according to CNN and ABC

Both networks reported that even Hawaii did not have any snow on its highest peaks. The Associated Press article (http://tinyurl.com/yj9cjtw) states:

"Hawaii's 13,800-foot Mauna Kea volcano, which often gets snow much of the year at its higher elevations, is the most likely place in the 50th state to have snow, but there "is nothing right now," said research meteorologist Tiziana Cherubini at the Mauna Kea Weather Center. It has been a few weeks since there has been snow in the mountains, and none is in the forecast, ruining a perfect 50-for-50, she said."

Blueink, check out Bill Nye the Science Guy:

As introduced and interviewed on TV earlier this week:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYvk1OtI0H0

Then, check out some photos of Hong Kong:

http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&source=hp&q=Hong+Kong+smog+photo&rlz=1W1ADRA_en&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=X0Z2S7C5OI2AsgOX2rjLCA&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CBUQsAQwAA

Then, check out the relative thickness of the Earth's atmosphere:

http://www.ucar.edu/learn/1_1_2_2t.htm (If you don't want to read through the whole lesson, the point is - imagine the Earth shrunk to the size of an apple. The atmosphere is about the thickness of the apple's skin.

Then, just for drill, check out how that sick, gray air over, say, Hong Kong, eventually travels around the globe, say, to the US, and in so doing, may have an impact on that thin skin of protection, our atmosphere.

Have you ever heard of the Greenhouse Effect? (Again, that apple skin of protection, in Earth's case, that that traps pullutants because toxins are magnified.)

Do you know how much fresh water is left globally? (Hint: not much.)

This thread is about a change in local weather across much of our nation. Winter storms are getting stronger and bigger. Summers are getting hotter and drier. One only has to ask why might that be?

Climate change is changing weathers all over the world. And we only have one World.

So, it seems to me that denial of a problem is a part of the problem.

Scoff or get with the program. It's a personal choice.

Re: Blueink, check out Bill Nye the Science Guy-Susan

Thank you for trying to educate the misinformed folks on this. Yes it seems denial plays a big part here. I believe it will be up to our kids and grandkids who as a whole will take this seriously. And we can only hope that it wont be too late. Ive seen arguments from both sides, but neither side can refuse the evidence of the weather changing to the extremes in ALL parts of the world.

And Blueink, Al Gore isnt as respected when it comes to this subject as you think. Some say its a political tactic and a money driven effort. If you want to see who the big players really are in this subject, go to Union of Concerned Scientists.
