Split signing nightmares...Excuse my whining
I was (un)fortunate to have 3 split signings in the first 2 weeks of December 09, and I'm still dealing with the reprecussions of Notary errors( not mine) that have delayed my payments.I've done quite a few of these over the years, and as I recall there's only been a handful that weren't done correctly.
First one, the Notary up in the great northwest did "escrow a favor" by post dating her Notarizations for the day I was going to meet with my signers. Of course this wasn't a problem for me, as I would be using the correct date, but I feared it might look fishy...so I e-mailed the Notary and asked why this was done, and the favor excuse was all that I received. Still waiting on payment for this one.
Second one, the Co. Notary missed all kinds of signatures, failed to Notarize several, and on the ones that were done, the seal was so light, it was barely readable. The package bounced, and I had to meet with my parties again to re-sign the whole package. The first trip was paid, now I'm getting the runaround on the return trip fee.
Third one, and this one's my favorite--I receive the signed package from the Maryland Notary and start to look through it for what I need to do.On top of the package is a note from the Notary that states: Please Notarize everything".Okay, I am thinking sure, I'll do that, that's what I'm getting paid to do.This Notary had something else in mind, she wanted me to Notarize her signers too!Huh? that's right, she had them sign, but didn't Notarize anything.. Do they have Notary seals in Maryland???. Why, I ask did that happen and the answer is : " I'm a Maryland Notary, I can't do Calif Notarizations.....HUH???? Just got paid for this one.....

As I recall from NOTROT, MD requires that you be...
a Licensed Title Producer in order to do loan signings. I would have thought that such a designation would require a bit more than the ability to fog a mirror.

Last one may have been on respirator. Doesn't sound like s/he was using all faculties. D'uh

Question? Did they sign first then shipped the Docs to you? I asked because although I didn't have a problem the SS was very unhappy I sent the Doc "overnight express" instead of Standard. Personally, if the Docs were sent to me and had errors I would contact the other notary and try to help them, get it right so they'd know how to do it correctly the next time. Sorry about you missing out on your pay, that's a bummer for sure.

I always ship express unless standard is requested. If they want it done a certain way, they either need to provide explicit instructions or better yet send a pre-printed label.

In all 3 cases, I received the docs after the first party signed.I'm really not one to critique the work of others, but these were such glaring errors that I couldn't help but notice. All of the other Notaries involved should know the basics of this profession, so trying to help them out was pointless,IMO. I did explain to one of them that dating for any day other then the day your signers are in front of you is against the law,and the reply was "I thought it only was for backdating". I give up....

That's really funny....thanks for sharing. Hey, you did try...that's all we can do. Although I would welcome anyone contacting me to help me correct something I was doing incorrectly, I guess some can't handle the criticism. IMO

It works both ways with split signings. I did one last week for a CA purchase. The husband was here on military business, so we signed the 2nd part. Then I get an email from the tc that they have to have CA ack forms in order for it to record. I'm a VA notary, notarization took place in VA. Too bad the recorders in various states don't get this split signing concept.

It could be the tc, not the Recorders that don't get it. n/m
