Tech Question - Apple iPad
Anyone take a look at this with any eye toward it's use in e-signings? I haven't researched it a lot but when I first saw a commercial about it, my first thought was "now THAT would be great for e-signings"..
What do you think?

1. The borrowers still need to be told in advance by the loan officer that it's an esign. I have never ever had a borrower that was delighted about esigns...
2. Still need to print and apples are a pain for print if you have an hp printer
I think the esigns are designed for windows operating systems. I'm no techie and I love Mac, but I have not found it to work with our line of work.

Part of the specs on it...it's why I asked
Windows system requirements
PC with USB 2.0 port
Windows 7; Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 3 or later
iTunes 9.0 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)
iTunes Store account
Internet access
And doesn't the printing get done in advance?

Yes, portions are printed in advance, however, I had customers that wanted to print after they clicked the "x" and there IS a print option for this...

The iPad is not a computer in the true sense of the word as an old . I played a little with one at the Apple store, but I was taking my better half to a movie, and I know what side my bread is buttered on. I am going to play more later this week. I was looking for something functional to take on motorcycle trips, but this looks a little fragile for that. I would describe it more truly as an enlarged version of the iPhone without the phone. Plus, as mentioned before, the operating system is not compatible with esignings, and it does not come standard with enough memory to run a windows emulation program. It has no hard drive, so it runs on flash memory and in my opinion, not enough processor power.
If you want a touch pad tablet, most major manufactures offer them. They just haven't caught on. My daughter is a geologist and uses a Sony touch pad in the field. It is a military spec version, so it is 3 grand. It is a regular windows computer with a 300 gig hard drive and 4 gigs of ram. You can throw it against a wall and it will still work. There are consumer ones for the more frugal users.
What caught my eye is that this make the first use of an Apple manufactured processor. It does not use an Intel. It also doesn't have near the power of the Intel, but it does make me wonder what Apple is up to. Their Intel contract ends in 2012.

Thanks Glenn...
This just looks like it would be so much easier for e-signings than everyone grouped around a standard laptop (the one without the swiveling screen)...

Glenn -
For the motorcycle, I bought a little Acer netbook. I only use it for Streets & Trips and e-mail. It is small enough to fit in the saddle bags and I've found it to be quite sturdy too.
I wouldn't like it as my only computer, as the keyboard is small and difficult to type very quickly, but over all, it's a great travel computer.

i can't take the ipad seriously...joel mchale (he hosts the soup on e!) did a bit on it the other night. he had a co-star talk about the "ipad mini" (he was holding the ipod touch) and how it's the latest technology available.

If it's Amtrust e-signings you need to have Internet Explorer to access the website.
