mobile printing

OK, I've read a number of posts on the topic, but I still have a few questions.
1- Does the inverter have to be hard wired? or can you buy one that just plugs into the cigarette lighter?
2- I've read a few things about an isolator but I'm not sure exactly what role that plays in the setup.
3- Does anyone address weather conditions with a printer in their car? Mine is suppose to be in 50-90 degree environment at all times. Is there anything that can be done to protect the printer from these conditions when it is hotter or colder than that?

BTW, you might want to make your profile more "advertising"

friendly. Companies look at these profiles all the time.

1. Depends on what wattage is actually needed for your printer. Some lower wattages can use the auto outlet, while my printer needs at least 880 W for surge/startup.

2. Isolators allow dual battery systems to be charged from the same alternator while preventing discharge of the starting battery from the inverter.

3. I would bring your printer inside when not in use. Don't leave it in the car 24/7!
It gets hot here in FL, and I've known of at least one (plastic) printer that has melted.
When in the car, I make a shaded area to keep it in, and crack some windows, and remove when I can.

We did Mobile signings for a while

When we are all so busy doing as many as 9 signings a day we turned our car into an office. We purchased a very small, very inexpensive HP printer. It did an amazing job though spitting out documents almost as fast as our laser printer. For that printer we only used an inverter that plugged into the lighter socket.

Due to the extreme heat in Arizona we could not leave our equipment in the car even overnight so everything went into a box which we moved from car to house etc.

We used an air card for high speed service which plugs into the laptop computer. As a matter of fact we still use only air cards instead of cable, in both our home and when we do E Signings.

We found the ability to be able to print documents while traveling to be very beneficial for those last minute calls or last minute documents. Since business for us is not as demanding as it was a couple of years ago, we no longer find the mobility necessary.
