power inverter for car/using laser jet from car

Anyone using a power inverter to print with a laser jet from their car? Is it necessary to have a pure sine inverter, or is a modified one sufficient? What wattage inverter is necessary?

Garland, there are multiple posts here on the board

on this subject. Try searching using the word "inverter".

Or search "mobile office"..

I seem to recall the recommendation is "1000 watt pure sine inverter"...

Re: Or search "mobile office"..

I have a 1000 watt pure sine inverter that I purchased over the internet from Home Depot for under $250.00, Took a mechanic one hour to install and it works great. (I also use it to power a crock pot when going away on weekends). It has two outlets. The remote control is "iffy" so I do not use it. Works fantastic otherwise. And, yes, even at that price, it is a pure sine inverter.

thanks. what kind of printer do you use? Do you use an isolator to keep from draining the battery, as some have suggested?
anything else I need to know?

I use a 1500W pure sine with an HP2015d laser and have a

friend using an 1000W regular inverter with same printer and no problems.
I think pure sine is a selling point, but maybe not necessary.

I use a power inverter to print with a laser jet from my car. Is it not necessary to have a pure sine inverter, my is a modified one. My wattage output is 1000. I do not have an isolater with mine. I have it hard wired to the battery. They say that if you don't have a pure sine inverter it will cause problems with your laptop. This is my third year with the same laptop with no problems.

Re: power inverter is the same as enotary

Mine also is 1000 watt and hard wired my the battery. My husband put it in. I have had mine over 3 years. I use it with my computer and printer and copy machine I have had no problems. I start you car first then plug my equipment to a surge protector first every time. That way if there is a surge then it will on hit my equipment. Good Luck

I use a 1000 watt pure sine inverter and have been told anything else will burn out the printer. If you want any other info pm me. I've used it successfully over a year and love it. It came from the inverter store.

I have a 750 watt power inverter hard wired with #2 wire behind my drivers seat. I've had this working for 7 years and works great. I power a HP lazer jet printer and can print full 100 plus pages packages with no problem while driving too.

Pure sine vs. square wave inverters

The problem with wave form only comes into play when specialized pieces of equipment need to be powered. Here are a few devices which could have problems when they are connected to an inverter producing a modified-sine wave signal: oxygen concentrators, fax machines, laser printers, high voltage cordless tool chargers, equipment with variable speed motors, electric shavers, and garage door openers.

Lots of comparison information here.

Misty: that's a great site for comparison

I have a 1200w pure sine inverter. Even though I have more than one printer, I don't want to "burn out" my equipment before it's useful life is over.

BTW, how did your V-Day weddings go?
