BIG NO...NO..had to share
What a BIG NO..NO! This is unbelievable that I had to share. I had a closing tonight and at the end of the closing the husband looked at me and said "I have to ask something of you and I hope this closing goes better than the last time we closed." He went on to tell me that the last time they closed the closer zipped through the closing leaving their heads spinning and on top of it a FEW days AFTER the closing their local police department called advising them that their loan documents were found down the road on the side of the road. They picked them up at the police department and called their lender. The closer never called them nor the lender to advise that she lost them. UNBELIEVABLE! Can you believe that? How do you not know or not have the courtesy to let someone know that the loan docs were lost. Good way for identity theft with all the info contained in the docs.

Re: @#!%# Geesh!!
Back in the fall I had bos tell me that their closing documents were found in a parking lot near the UPS box that was in the parking lot of the TC and they were opened. Someone found them and called her. I was there to reclose. TC purchased a huge insurance policy to cover them just in case..I cant recall what kind of insurance it was..Bo was relieved!

Re: @#!%# Geesh!!
TC wasted their money, if they get caught. Insurance bought after an insured event occurs is worthless. That, for only an example as flood insurance has a 30 day waiting period, would be like buying flood insurance the day after a flood. WORTHLESS! Same as buying liability insurance on a care 1 second after you had a wreck. WORTHLESS!

Re: @#!%# Geesh!!
Not necessarily. If the TC bought a claims made policy rather than an occurrence policy, I think they would be covered. Our E&O insurance covers when the claim is made, not when the incident happened. Any insurance pros out there?

I am not surprised....Every profession
has unscrupulous individuals who for whatever reason do not care.

Sounds to me like half the story...
Loan docs just don't fly out of a vehicle. Gotta be more to this than we'll never know.

I agree. Put in box, flap stuck, someone took, examined and decided nothing there? Someone broke into box, took what they wanted, tossed balance? Stopped for traffic light, carjacked, package fell out, but notary still directed down the street?
There are others, but you get the idea. One should not jump to conclustions.
They were such a cute couple, so loving...but did you notice, there are no animals in their neighborhood? There used to be cats at every third house....

Re: Sounds to me like half the story...
You and I think alike jba! When I read the original post my mental scenario included a gal laying the package on top of her car while she opened the door, putting everything inside except the documents, and driving off. Docs "fly" off the car on down the road, and "poof" she "lost" them. Not reporting the "lost" docs is just unprofessional and stupid.
I speak from experience (not nsa experience) on this one. We left church one Sunday and about two blocks down the road an elderly couple's car was pulled in a parking lot while they were frantically dodging traffic to retrieve papers from the highway. The husband had placed their Bible on the roof while he helped her into the car and then forgot it was there. Yes, we helped that sweet couple out.
One a different evening we were headed to a fellowship after church for which I had made brownies. An assistant pastor of our church had helped us carry things to our car and unbeknownst to us placed the pan of warm brownies on the top of our minivan then left for the fellowship. When we pulled out of the church parking lot we heard a sliding sound on the roof, then a crash, and a long honk when the brownies hit the car behind us. They didn't even stop to tell us if their car was okay. Needless to say we didn't have brownies that night, but the wildlife must have enjoyed them. They were gone by the time we went home. The worst part of this story is that I had used my grandmother's pan with a very special sliding lid and this of course ruined it. I kept it though for none baking purposes to remember her by.

When I first started in this business and used drop boxes
I was totally amazed at how often I would go to drop a package ONLY to find that the box had been jammed full with no room for mine. People put everything but the kitchen sink in those boxes! Once it's jam full it takes nothing for someone to reach in and start pulling things out. And no one here has ever put a trace on a package? I did...twice.

Re: Sounds to me like half the story...
I agree that may have happened, where they put the docs on top of the car and forgot. The part that is puzzling, is wouldn't you know the loan docs were missing when you go to the drop off box or to fax back closing confirmation w/tracking #? Keep in mind the police said the docs were found a mile or two down the road from their subdivision.

OMG. This is the kind of thing that makes it so hard to establish credibility for this profession. I hear some unbelievable stories all the time. I cringe when I get the "moron" treatment and know where it comes from.

My guess is that the notary that did this is a $65 point and sign loan closer. She probably wore flip flops and jeans to the signing, too. These companies get what they pay for...

Every profession and job has its share of morons and/or moronic bahavior. We publish lists all the time under: We let them breed, Funny Things Lawyers Do and other such titles.
Jumping to conclusions is what the police, prosecutors and ignorant masses do. Jessica Fletcher, Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot, Perry Mason and others actually think before even moving, let alone jumping. Really, I don't even think that they do jump.

I don't believe it. Not you, but the borrowers story. I've been in this business long enough to know that borrowers do lie. A LOT. Some borrowers seem to have it in for the notory (for whatever reason) and decide to give them as hard as time as possible. The notary knows that they will not be paid if they don't deliver the docs, so I can't imagine a notary throwing the docs away after the signing, even if the borrower is a hard case. Just my opinion.

"a few days"?
Seems like title would have already been on this like white on rice if they did not receive the docs. And the police beat them to the revelation of lost docs? Hmmm.mm

I don't think they were "thrown away"...maybe left on top of the car as others in this post have stated...my point is you usually keep track of your loan docs to get them to the drop box or send a tracking # confirmation to the TC. Since they were told the docs were found down the road, I don't think it was a matter of being taken out of a drop box...could be wrong, but they kind of lived in the middle of nowhere. When the borrower called their lender a few days after the loan signing, they were not aware of any lost docs. Who knows...thought it was interesting...had to share.
