Background checks - Updated info requests from TCs, SSs?
For those of us who, at the request of our client TC's and SS's, have provided current background check information to them . . . has anyone ever received a request from those same TC/SS's to provide updated BGC info if your old one has expired? Wondering whether it's worth it to have an updated BGC done if you are already in your clients' system and they don't follow up with another BGC update request.

I know FASS wants a new NNA BGC every 2 years.

Many of the larger vendors track when your BGC, E&O, and commission expires and ask for evidence of renewals and/or continuation. Many others don't ask for any or only part of it.

My BGC does not expire
Background checks really cannot expire. Or, you can say, that the BGC is expired upon receipt. A background check is a snap-shot in time. So, in reality it has expired as soon as the report is generated because lots of things can change in an instant.
This is not to be confused with having a 'renewal' policy for updating a background check. When I was working for the DoD and NATO, checks were performed every 6 months, updating the information from the initial full FBI, NAC, etc. checks.

Neither does mine
I agree 200% with PAW.
The entire BGC is a farse contrived by the NNA and subscribed to by some SS/TCs. It proves absolutely nothing beyond the instant it was performed. I comply with all state and federal privacy laws and am in full compliance with state requirements for maintaining my commission (not a felon).
There have been many posts on this topic.

Re: My BGC does not expire
Same here. I ended my relationship with XYZ when I realized their renewal of cert/bgc was merely for their profit. I am getting requests from companies for new W-9's & E&O Insurance. It is obvious that these companies update their databases at the beginning of a new year. I haven't been asked for bgc in a long time.

Re: My BGC does not expire
I agree with the rest. I don't believe bgc expire as they only prove what you did or didn't do in the past from the date it is generated.

Re: My BGC does not expire
Same here... I'm not renewing with NNA either. The background check my state performs to obtain my commission is enough.
What really matters isn't a BGC as much as our own privacy practices and document handling.
Which, by the way... are often violated by sending unsecure PDFS through unsecure email all the times by these companies, but there's no convincing them of these things.

Thanks for all of your input. While the subject of background checks has been covered ad nauseum here, no mention was made of any TC or SS following up and notifying an SA that "hey, we see that your bgc was done over 2 years ago and we need evidence of a new one, or we'll drop you." As a former DoD employee, I am well aware that background checks ( like computer technology) are essentially no longer valid by the very next day. I don't think I'll have another bkgc check done when my "2 years" are up, unless the larger TC's SS's absolutely insist. Wish they wouldn't hang onto XYZ's coattails for background check rqmts!
