Beat the Dead Beats

To eliminate the risk from dead beat signing services that do not pay for services rendered, set yourself up with a PayPal account for your business and demand your money up front prior to to accepting and performing your services. Why go through all the hassle of trying to get your dollars earned. This will teach these dead beat companies to establish an account and start paying up front for services rendered. Set yourself up with an account from paypal and beat the dead beats

I don't know of too many title companies that even have PayPal accounts, much less are willing to pay "up front" through PayPal or by check.

Having said that, even if a payment is made to your PayPal account, it is very easy to reverse that payment so you end up with nothing. At least with a check that bounces, you may have some legal standing to collect.

If you want to change the way we do business, only accept equitable fee offers and only from reliable and trustworthy customers. Many NSA's have ceased doing business with many signing services because of the hassle of getting paid and the extremely low fees. (It must be noted that there are indeed some very reputable signing services out there. They are well known in the NSA circles and live up to their agreements.)

Agree with Paul, you start demanding and they will find an

NSA who is not so demanding.

Your business though, run it as you see fit.

I work for many SS and have found that most are reputable and about one closing in 500 I will have trouble collecting. I can live with those odds.

Most are reputable and I am looking for a way to help those individuals that have trouble getting paid. I have never had a problem with those I have been established with. However Jim, I would take a company with a bad rap and perform the service if they are willing to prepay with their credit card or debit card. When that company is invoiced they are given instructions with the invoice from PayPal on how to forward their payment to your account. My son was burned once with a check and for five years he has been using PayPal and is very happy with it! No burns or scars...LOL

It is easier to make a stop payment or reverse a charge on a PayPal transaction than it is on a check. I reiterate that I don't know of too many established businesses (e.g., title companies, lenders, etc.) that use, or even consider using, PayPal as a payment method for services, whether they have a PayPal account or not.

It's far easier just to not work for them at all. If no one takes an assignment from a deadbeat company they will cease to exist.

Yes….them, and others. I blame the NNA, and their NSA machine churning out massive amounts of hopefuls.
Some here have said that they will work for known deadbeats/late payers/people that if they do pay; it takes months of harassment, threats, and paperwork. Some are known to only pay notaries close to them (so they aren’t taken to Small Claims Court) and not others. I won’t work for these guys at ANY price, paid in front, in gold, or not. I want them gone!
They are a blight on this profession, and anyone that accepts assignments from them just facilitate their continuing existence. Shame on them…and shame on those that knowingly work for them! JMO

I agree, why enable them? Stop taking work from them

yes, you can put them out of business. If people complain to the right people, they will not be in business. If we stick together and say no, they will not be able to easily fill their orders. It has happened before, take Lia Sigings for example. We are in the drivers seat (literally Smile )

yes, but let it be the uniformed newbie take the fall

Let the uniformed newbies who come and go, with no clue or plan deal with the lowlife signing companies out there. Anyone who goes about this business (or any other) in a professional manner, will have researched the business BEFORE setting up shop, and will have discovered sites like this, where the information is free for those willing to make a little effort.
If they have no idea that sites like this one exist; I have made my point.
All the information is out there, most everything they need to know to be successful in this line of work. I do not feel sorry for any newbie, that hasn't a clue.

Yet there's always another waiting in line

to fill the shoes of lowball, sleezy signing services or newbies that doesn't know any better. Unfortunately with each new cycle signing fees take another hit. 5 years ago MDA, fka Transunion used to pay $125.00 for a HELOC with overnight docs. Today's rate, $46.00 for a single refi.

Maybe one day signing agents will be regarded much the same as appraisers. By law they get paid when the work is performed regardless of whether the loan closes. And while appriasers have also taken a fee cut they are still able to maintain an industry standard fee. Unlike signing fees which vary between $30 and $200.00.

Cheers to all for a prosperous 2010.
