Been reading here for about 5 hours
I do believe my head is going to explode from all the information *laughs*.
Just wanted to give a big thank you to all of you who have contributed to this huge body of information.
THANK YOU!

I've been doing much the same -
started with #1. Sure were a lot of 'anonymous' posters in the early days. I'm glad that is gone. One can see people come and go - very few originals still around. Interesting reading all the same.

Jba/fl: Did you read entire thread?
It shows little has changed! The first question was from someone saying mean/rude people need not respond. Then the person who responded said the question was too general to be answered and more information was necessary. Eight years later, it's pretty much the same. By the way, who is "Samantha Coppa White Elephant" (is that her real name?) and wonder if she is still "not accepting notary work"? Samantha, are you out there? You need to update your profile!

Re: Jba/fl: Did you read entire thread?
I read the whole blessed thing *laughs* along with every recommended thread in its entirety. I've been a notary for about 5 years, but I'm just not putting my toe into the water for NSA. I'm trying to build a work from home business: part VA, part blogging, part notary. This just seemed like a good area to add to my profile. I feel like if I can get a bit going in several different areas, I can make a go of it. I have no aspirations of becoming rich (would be nice, but not a necessity for us). Living in a rural area, I just feel like someone diversified can do better than someone trying to just fill one niche. I see a number of people here seem to agree with that philosophy.
Anyway, I was serious in saying thank you to all the folks who have contributed to the depth of information here, and not just in the recommended threads. I've probably read about a month back so far, and saw so many of my questions answered, as well as spurring me to make sure I really did know as much about my state laws as I thought I did *laugh*.
It was kind of funny. I was reading through threads and kept popping up knew tabs to do searches and bookmark pages. At one point I think I had about 10 tabs open along different lines of query. But I've sure learned a lot, for which I'm most grateful.

Upon reading further ... (PAW)
Message number 2 was a notary asking about out-of-state loans. And thus began the awesome, can't-live-without, invaluable responses from PAW! By the way, PAW, you responded with the 2005 witness requirements (which I know you've reposted in one form or another many times since), but you added at the bottom:
<< 3) Lenders may require witnesses, even though there is no state requirement.>>
Is that why on some deeds there are Witness signature lines? Which I always have ignored cos CA isn't a witness state (and never heard any complaints).

"Is that why on some deeds there are Witness signature lines?"
In Fl we use mortagages, and the only deeds we have are specific to a cause (Quit Claim Deed, Warranty Deed, etc.) I know you use Deed of Trust in CA and many other states. The witness lines are, to my way of thinking, there for the states that require them, or when the lender requests witnesses, which can be in any instructions for any state. I don't use them except when the instructions say to have witnesses, which is seldom. I believe you would be doing much the same in CA.
