Certification
I have been doing Witness Notary closings for 7 years and just got certified through NNA. I live in Illinois. They say you get higher fees being certified. Does anyone know the going rate for e-docs--refi?

"They" say lots of things. I don't think too many organizations pay more for a 'certified' signing agent. IMO, it's all hype and a $$$ money maker for the NNA.

Regal's point is very valid
"Your" rate is your rate. Just because some co's are very cheap, does not mean 'your' fee should change. If you're worried that you didn't get a call back to approve your fee, that does NOT mean your fee is too high. The next notary could be many miles nearer or TC/SS just got tired of calling and getting the same fee quoted by 4 notaries and just gave it to the one they were talking to at the moment. You can't win 'em all, but you surely shouldn't be losing on the ones you do accept.

7 years' experience closing loans? Sorry you wasted your money on that certification - your experience should speak for itself. And after 7 years in the business you should be well aware of what the going rate is for your area.

I was inquiring because I have some companies who have low balled offering $50 and then I have other companies offering to pay $125. I have had some companies say "well, if I'll have to check with my supervisor and call you back or if I can't find another closer who wil do it for xx, then I'll call you back. I was curious to see if my rate was current with the rest!

Just tell them u r certified and NNA said you are worth more
$$ now. They will surely give you more.
Maybe it is just better pay from the 2 companies that still use XYZ website to find nsa.

I'm glad you're keeping your sense of humor about this! Sadly, in my experience, it's usually the other way around, i.e. the companies that want "certification" also usually don't want to pay decent fees.
I got an NNA certification when I was a fresh newbie and knew nothing beyond what was in the book. I had no experience, so the certification was the only thing I had to sell. I let my certification expire two years later when, with a bunch of experience under my belt, the NNA wanted me to pay up again for what I'd already done and learned. I didn't see continuing to pay their fees as adding any value to me or to my business. And by then, I could have danced circles around what I knew when I was first "certified"...!
It seems to me that the better paying companies that I work for are more interested in my knowledge, experience, etc. than in any "certification" that I might or might not have.

Exactly. We are selling our knowledge, experience, & expertise--not what XYZ says. My state does not license or offer certification in this profession. The "certification" label sold by XYZ is their marketing tool--it's been very profitable for them. I also took it when I was starting out, but have not & will not give them money every two years to renew.
