Commission renewed - no stamp yet

The other day I renewed my commission and ordered a new stamp, which hasn't arrived yet. Last night I was at a signing and started to write "my commission expires 1/31/2015" before I realized my stamp says it expires 1/31/2010. I elected to fill in the blank with 1/31/2010 to be consistent with the stamp although my commission now technically doesn't expire until 2015. Is that what everyone else does?

In California, our commissions are new every 4 years and our commission numbers are only good for the current term. In essense we don't "renew" but are appointed for a new commission. (about as clear as mud)

I would enter the date that is consistant with the stamp used.

In FL my commission is for 4 years. Using your dates for mine: my comm. expires 1/31/10 and I have my new, renewed commission all ready to go, which expires 4 years later. But, it does not go into effect until my old commission expires, or Feb. 1, 2010. So, I cannot use the new one as it is not in effect yet. My old one, or current if you prefer, is the one to use until 1-31-2010 at midnight.

I remember a few years back being called by TC about my stamp as I did a package on 1-31-07, the expiration date. I sent a copy of FL manual page showing it was good on the 31st until midnight. The next day the old was expired and the new was valid for the next 4 years.

I just renewed last May. I used my old expiration date (which was still valid) until my new stamp arrived. Once I had the new stamp I began using the new commission expiration date because the new commission was in effect. There was a slight overlap between the validity of my old commission and my new commission. Same commission number on both.

Hope you ordered your stamp from Notary Rotary - they are super fast!!!!

On another note, it was tricky retraining myself to write the new expiration year on my notarizations! It's such a habit to write it the old way - you really need to double and triple check yourself the first month or so!

As jba/FL stated, in FL our new commission is not effective until the old one expires, and we aren't supposed to use our new stamp until the new commission is in effect.

I have a stamp (separate from my "official" stamp) that states "My Commission Expires April 20, 20___", so I can fill in the last two digits when my expiration date changes.
