DTI Settlement: Avoid!

Jennifer from DTI contacted me on Thursday January 21 to do a signing on Friday January 22 at 6 PM. She refused to give me the phone number of the borrower, telling me that the contact info would be provided when the docs were sent. I explained to her that the borrower had to be aware of the Connecticut ID requirement and would need to provide a witness (CT requires two witnesses; the Notary is allowed to be one of the two). Jennifer said that the Loan Officer would tell the borrower.

I called on the 22nd looking for docs and was told that they weren't ready.

On the 22nd at 5:35, just 25 minutes before the appointment time, Jennifer called and postponed the signing until Monday the 25th at 6 PM. I accepted to the change; what else could I do?r

On Monday the 25th I did not hear anything from Jennifer at DTI. Phone calls were not returned.

On Tuesday the 26th, I received the following email:
"I had forgotten that CT was an attorney state and needed to find another signing agent. Dave is in the hospital and wasn't available. [Dave Isman is aparently the owner of DTI Settlement.] I apologize for my oversight for not calling you to tell you. When I had to switch signing agents I forgot to let you know."

Ladies and gentlemen, Connecticut is NOT an attorney-only state!

Late edocs are an unfortunate fact of Notary Signing Agent life. Appointments made without regard for when the docs will be ready are too common. I find it inexcusable that somebody postponed 25 minutes before the appointment time, then "forgot" to call and say the new appointment was cancelled.

Do what you will with DTI. Or not.

Agree with Linda ...

Sounds like they found someone who "wouldn't ask questions" and cheaper.

It wasn't me. I confirm parties who are supposed to be there to sign, witness, identification and MOST IMPORTANT location of signing and directions. As you know Ernest, at 7 pm at night it is not that easy to find the last brown house (pass 2 other houses) 1/2 mile down the one-way dirt driveway which is marked by the black mailboxes across the street about a mile from the green house on your left. LOL

My last two were delayed because co-borrower got stopped in traffic coming home, 30 minute delay while waiting for state police, fire, ambulance etc. to clear the road. I LOVE cell phones - husband and I would have been worried.

That's almost as good as

Turn at the corner where the Smith's barn used to be before it burned down last year (LOL)
