Did my first Nations Direct today
Does anyone have any recent thoughts on Nations Direct? I just want to know how my friends out there are dealing with them before I get too involved. I did not read the rating/ comments till I got back in the office (the comments I found all of them were not good with a very bad rating!) Anyhow, stay warm it is freezing here in FL today!

I hope you got a decent fee. ND is a notorious low-baller. I have never taken any work from them because of that fact.

I have closed for ND when they meet my fee, which is rare, but it does happen occasionally. I have had no issues being paid by them either, although you do need to be patient with them. If they call I quote my fee, if we can't agree, we both move on.

I have them coded as SPAM in my phone, so I don't ever even answer their calls. I don't think they've ever offered over $40 and I don't even want to waste time talking to them.

Anyone can call and offer anything they want as a fee....
the difference is whether or not the fee meets your standard. They always low-ball, and I counter. They say that they'll have to get that "approved", and most times I never hear back. On the rare occasion that I do, it is always my full fee, and I have never had to make a collection call to them either. If I don't hear back, no big deal. I know what I have to charge to make a PROFIT at the end of the year, and I stick to it. I closed 4 loans for them in 2009 and all were paid within 30 - 45 days. I certainly feel that everyone should be charging at least triple digits for loan closings or they are most likely working to break even.

I have worked with them for years, but only when they pay my fee. They will occasionally when they cannot find anyone else. Remember they pay at the end of the month following the signing so sometimes you can wait almost 60 days for payment. They always pay as agreed though. The fax backs and phone calls can be a bit of a pain too. They are not my favorite, but when they really need me, they are ok to work with. I just will not work for their base fee, which is typically $60 for e docs. Much too low for me.

With all due respect...
IM(VERY)HO---If anyone is working for anything less than $80-85 a closing for e-doc's (especially with the size of these packages lately), I would venture to say either you're new and are not aware (however THEY are which is why they do it-and also why they do the handholding) or you seriously have a SCREW LOOSE...lol...I did not say you were a damn fool, I said you have a screw loose...tee hee!!!
You're actually paying THEM. After our overhead costs-paper, toner, wear & tear on printers, cars, maintenance on both, GAS, and TIME (time is MONEY BABY) waiting on doc's, having to print and dealing with the people who insist that they have to read every page even though they know they have the three day recission period, what did I miss?, you end up way in the hole.
Don't get me wrong, when I was new, I didn't know any better and worked with companies like this, but I honestly didn't know what the rate should be. As I've said and will continue to say, if people keep taking these low ball fees then we're the idiots not THEM! Business is business baby!! They're doing what most businesses are supposed to do...make money...albeit without integrity, but as I said, to most it's all business, nothing personal.
It's almost like, "I'm a multimillionaire, but if you want to lower my taxes and raise it for the poor, then okay."
I may or may not get slammed for this post, but hey, that is only my VERY humble opinion...tee hee

Re: With all due respect...
I'd say $85 w/edocs is still too low, even if it's across the street.

Thanks everyone. I agree. I have been in this business 6 years and I guess certain things just never cease to amaze me so that is why I posted the topic. By the way I live in one of the lowest paying counties in the State and that being said still I wont' take anything less than $95 to leave my office and that is a heck of a lot less than I used to take so actually it is a bargain for them!. Enjoy your weekend. Off to the movies to unwind! Kat

Re: With all due respect...
I'm in MD where we are required to be licensed and bonded. My minimum fee is $125 for edocs. My licensed, bonded, experienced colleagues have set the same minimum fee. Notaries who accept much less than that are probably inexperienced, not licensed, or both. And they potentially drive down the fees for EVERYONE!!!!
If we all refuse 'low ball' signing fees then they have to pay more. Please encourage your notary buddies to be steadfast in their requests for FAIR FEES in your area. We've got to stick together.

Borrower charged $250 for Notary services TC pays $200 to SS to find Notary SS calls Notary and offers $60 Notary accepts, and for what? All the risk, liability, equipment use, paper, toner, commuting to/from borrower, wear and tear on vehicle, time at borrowers, shipping docs, invoicing, etc. SS simply made a phone call, keeps $140 Notary does the work, takes on risk and liability to get $60
Wow Weee!!!....I am shocked and amazed that anyone makes a deliberate, conscious, under-no-medication decision to cheat themselves, take a lot of risk and liability, and work at a loss. You're better off getting a job at Walmart or McDonalds - less risk and hassles.

LKT/CA Gotta love it!!! Did my first Nations Direct today
You go! LMAO!! Love love love it!
That pretty much sums it up!! And I only said SCREW LOOSE? Sounds like a newbie or damn fool IMO!
And if they're working for Walmart/McDonalds at least they might actually be getting paid...

Here's my take:
2 Signings for them so far but......
I asked for 125.00 and they agreed. But, here's the spin -
The first one said that the borrower did not sign the required form (will not say what it was) and then said I should have called about it. When there is a signature line that is to be signed before the borrowers do, shouldn't it be? Why should I put borrower (and myself) at risk because a line has not been signed by the lender.
The second one (and this was done on Christmas Eve mind you) said that several critical documents were not signed or notarized and that they did not see them in the fax back or in the FedEx package. This is odd because I was informed to send the docs by ND personnel. It's VERY difficult to give a call to an office that is closed on this holiday.
For some reason I get a bad feeling that I will NEVER get paid because they are trying to pass the blame onto me for they way they handle paperwork once it is received.
Comments? I think from now on...no more work for them because of this. Even with the requested fee I asked for ($125.00 per job).

All of us make mistakes form time to time. If you made a mistake, (doesn’t sound like it from your post) and they faxed you copies of the documents missing the signatures, or notarizations, I believe it is your responsibility to correct the errors for free. If they did not do this, it sounds to me like they just are looking for an excuse not to pay you. When you deal with companies that work with a business model like Nations Direct, can you expect any more?
