Journal Question - way up there on weird scale!

Ok....my son's cat brought a mouse inside the house to play with before Christmas. Didn't think much about it when my little dog kept alerting on my briefcase...after all, I'm around a LOT of dogs, cats (goats) when I do in-home signings. Went to get my journal out after a 2-week break and briefcase was terribly smelly...yep! Dead mouse! Briefcase is a lost cause. I can toss pretty much everything in it, too. But I need my journal. Even though it was in a separate pocket, it has that dead mouse smell. I've got it setting out in my garage, but can't really leave it outside because of weather....any ideas of how I can get the smell out?

I've heard that putting things with odors in the freezer (in a plastic bag, of course) does the trick.
Someone told me that works with tennis shoes. LOL

Perhaps baking soda as well? There are things to rid things of kennel smells - don't remember names though. Feed stores would know.

ROFL

You need an odor absorber. I would try placing the open journal in a trash bag with a diced apple or two (great for soaking up smoke smell after fires), open box of Baking Powder or other such thing. This can take a good day or two depending on the stench. Of course put them in a closed and sealed plastic trash bag. - Good Luck.

I'd try putting some charcoal that you put in an aquarium. Charcoal absorbs odor. Or maybe you could use regular charcoal, just put it in a small ziploc bag, then put the journal in with it all in a larger ziploc bag. That is a new one. Try spraying in some lysol also. Good luck. That's a new one!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a new one on order...can't get the cool one from NR locally....but until I receive it, I need to use this one. Also need to refer to it to close out end of year stuff. Stupid cat! Son rescued her as a newborn from a fast food dumpster and I bottle fed her. This is the thanks I get?!? LOL!

This is a weird one, Pamela!

I have something that will take the odor away (not mask) in one day if you use it right.

Please PM me your address and phone number. I'll PM you my phone number.

Then phone me when you get the odor eliminator stuff and I'll tell you how to use it. It's simple. I just don't have time to write it all out right now.

Don't worry about $ for postage. What I send will be small. I'll send a few extra.

Happy to help, LauraV

Right on, Tim, except for one thing. I would put the journal in a heavier bag, like a large Ziplock bag. Or better than that, one of those large bags that you can suck all the air out of. Then store the sealed bag in the bottom of your freezer. Leave it there until it is needed. Safe storage and probably by the time you need it again, it will be nearly odor free.

If journals are not required in your state, perhaps making photocopies of all of the pages and tossing out the original?

What I should have said was, instead of tossing out the original, shredding it.

Update: Journal in garage in a bag with fresh wood shavings between the pages (husband is dadoeing out a door for an addition). So far, it's a little better....to read the blog post about it google "alertandorientedx4" and "Mice and Samsonite".....
