Has anyone ever heard of this company?
I can't find them in SC, and just did a Reverse mortgage for them.
Hoping I get paid!

Re: $100 4 a RM...hmm, you must be doing this work for beer $$.

Could be your right Cari! And let me just throw this out for discussion.
I am new (retired and drawing a pension), when I began researching what going rates where, i was informed by the "expereinced notaries" that I should calculate my expenses, and just figure it out for myself. Well, I know my expenses, and I know what I want to make a month. I am not saddled with insurance payments and I do have a guaranteed income. So, maybe you are right, I could be doing it for beer money (my preference is scotch). But here is a word to all the "experienced people". When a newbie asks what the rates are, maybe, just maybe they are not trying to undercut you, maybe they are trying to comform and help you!
If the SS's are continually tightening the belts, it is time for price setting.

beer $$ or not, your advise to "experienced people" is right

"When a newbie asks what the rates are, maybe, just maybe they are not trying to undercut you, maybe they are trying to conform and help you!"

bagger -- you are right. IMO, to tell newbie’s to figure it out for themselves is just asking for them to accept the low ball bids, which in the end, hurts everyone.

For example: If the experienced people in an area are charging $150 (signing w/ e-docs) why not let newbie’s know? If they receive a call with an offer for only $60 they can counter with the $150 and help stop the low ball bids in their area.

We all offer the same service. The difference comes in individual level of service, knowledge, skill, and marketing.

IMO, any "experienced person" that has refused to help set the pricing bar in their area is wrong to attack newbie’s for accepting low ball offers. More than likely, they accept them because they do not know what the average charge should be and they do not understand the true value of their own service, work, time, knowledge and skills.

How very true - especially that first sentence.

Moneyman - read my response to Bagger.

The longer you are here, the more you read...the more you'll see why people answer things in a certain way. For the most part, readers are very competitive...including the signing services who read here. Although, the most of us seem like straightforward folks, there's just as many who never post that will cut your throat in a heartbeat...not just with prices, but trying to see legal or criminal charges brought against their competition to paralyze them. Sound paranoid? It's not. I've seen it up close and personal.

There's about a zillion different ways to step into a fresh green cow pattie by posting here. You learn to choose your words very carefully.

Re: $100 4 a RM...hmm, you must be doing this work for beer $$.

Just want to "chime in" <g> on the $100 for RM's.
Some companies RM packages I wouldn't touch for under $200! They so big and takes so long to get through.
Wells Fargo mortgages are smaller, more in line with a regular refinance package.

I always pay $100 for those RM's (usually they are overnighted from this one particular title company), if they are e-mailed then I always pay $135.
I think, not 100% certain, that the title companies hands are tied on what they can charge the borrower on closing costs.

There's a problem with your thinking on this. The reason no one will give you a rate on this forum is not because we are secretive but may be because...

(1) It's strictly illegal to "fix" prices in an industry.
(2) The DOJ has actually called some of us to inquire about this for reasons that the DOJ found to be unwarranted. (My theory: Disgruntled SS owner who lost TC business to notary networks.) Nonetheless, no one wants a call from the DOJ and it's just not worth it to help someone decide on a rate no matter how innocent it is or seems.

DOJ=Dept. of Justice...a federal agency. Look it up-search for "DOJ" and "price fixing".
