Printer Issues

I have a Brother MFC-8440. Very recently changed the drum out but the printer keeps alerting me that the drum is dirty! How do I clean the drum and how can I stop this from happening?

This message would continue to appear if the drum counter was not reset when you replaced the drum. To reset the drum counter, follow the instructions listed below.

1. Open the front cover.
2. Press the Options key on the control panel.
The display will show "REPLACE DRUM - 1.YES 2.NO".
3. Press 1 to reset the drum count.
4. Close the front cover.

I think what James didn't mention is there are black smugs on the paper when printing.

On the top of the drum there is a button that you can slide back and forth, it cleans the wire.
Hope that helps. I occasionally get that message and this procedure fixes it.

It sounds like you've got toner on the bulb, take out the drum and clean the toner out of the printer, then take the toner out of the drum and clean toner off of cartridge, then clean the loose toner out of the drum and very carefully off of the bulb & rollers with a microweave cloth. Then I use a toner magnet cloth to clean up the loose toner on the sides of the cartridge and the inside of the unit. If that doesn't work you need to get a new drum. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for the help! I cleaned and reset the drum in the options. I thought you just changed it out or if you were my Mom you would just banish it to the garage. If I do get that message again I will slide that bar across. The streeks are almost gone also. Thanks again!

I have very little patience with printer, cell, computers

A few years ago I had some problems with my HP 1200 jamming and I went out that day and bought a HP 1300 and put the 1200 in the garage and James came over and said "why is the 1200 in the garage and I said it doesn't work."

Well, it did work and he brought it back into my office and ever since I have had 2 printers.
2 printers are a luxury and certainly not what most notary/loan-signers need, but it is nice!

I think the paper was the problem.
