Recent E-Mail from JMT Financial Services

Anyone have any experience or opinions regarding the current E-mail JMT is circulating?

JMT Financial Services

"TO: Notaries
RE: Cell Phone capabilities

For the past two years, JMT has been testing an Automated Scheduling Program (ASP) in several areas of the country.

What we have determined, is that the ASP notaries who have participated, have seen their volume increase several fold, and we have been better able to communicated with them and work more as a team.

We are ready to expand this into other areas and would like to know if you have, or would be willing to obtain the phone equipment necessary to be considered for included in our ASP.

If you have a phone that is typically called a “Smart Phone” ie one that can browse the internet, and your have service with either AT&T or Verizon. We would appreciate hearing from you.

Typical Smart Phones would be like the iPhone, Blackberry and some Samsung and LG phones.

Please respond to this email if you currently have this type of phone or if you would be willing to obtain it.

Thank you,
Lloyd Pace, President JMT"

Wondering...

Is there anyone with said Smart Phone who works for JMT and can tell us just how this works? They don't give much info as to what, exactly, they expect from you and your SmartPhone. Which leads me to believe that you will be jumping thru many hoops and paying for having the hoops, but will end up simply BIDDING on any given job. Nice for them--many notaries pay, but only the cheapest gets the job; not so nice for notaries.

Re: Wondering...

JMT typically only pays $50 for overnight and $75 for edoc closings, wow. They are short and quick but cheap.

The way they explained it to me yesterday was appointments would be sent via email or text message and you would respond to accept/decline.

Not given a choice on fee is my guess. JMT has had these fees since I started this 5 years ago. I used to do closings for them until I raised my fees and now rarely hear from them, and even if I do, I tell them my fee and get the famous "I'll have to get that approved" and they almost never call me back.

Re: Wondering...

Thanks for info. I am in very rural not many notaries area and it flat rate fee doesn't work that way here. I also don't get much from them anyway.

I have a Blackberry and received text request for closings from them. There is a link that you need to access to respond. You need to respond in 5 minutes or the system goes to the next closer.

A dataplan for Verizon starts at $30/mo. Not willing to pay that at this point....Notary Bay used to send me text msgs, but that's all over. I would love to be able to email from my phone, and am sure it's coming, but right now I'm not spending a penny more than I need to. Maybe the tooth fairy will bring me an iTouch and between that and texts I can get onboard Smile

Even though they told me my fees were too high and they would never call me, I still get calls which tells me they are running out of local notaries who work for that price. They have even called notaries who are an hour or more out of my area. Someone must be doing them, though.

For what they want to pay, it's not cost effective for me. .....
