fass and PDA

Did anyone receive the email about the new FASS pda site. On the surface it all sounds innocent, like a service to us notaries, BUT..of course they manage to say "quality issue" about 5 times. I truley beleive this is the first salvo that all their agents will have to have pda access to do signings for them. I know this is probably good technogy to have in general, but it cost more money at a time when business is down in general. The bottom line is that they want singings reported 90 minutes after the START of the appointment, I repeat from the START! It's unreasonable and I beleive totally unnessasary. Once again I have to wonder if working for them is really worth the low fees and childish threats. Thoughts??

I won't work for FASS because of low fees and pettiness, however being in a rural area when I turn them down I usually get a call from FAT for the same deal and maybe twice a year I'll take the assignment. No more...I just got my last check from them....87 days after funding. I have as much time, trouble and money in the collection as I had in the actual assignment. Now they have more wants....astounding !

Got the email and no, I do not intend to get a mobile PDA just to access their website on-the-run. Actually, their previous requirement was that you contact them within 60 minutes after the start of the appointment, which was even more ridiculous than 90 minutes. I'll just continue to cell phone them as soon as signing is completed (whenever that is) and let the chips fall where they may. I think the only thing that a number of "quality issues" may affect is your "white glove" status and the extra perk of perhaps getting on their website to access potential signings in your area. I'm with you, I do NOT intend to invest any more money in purchasing higher tech "nice to have" equipment just to appease one or two clients.

I got that email too. I haven't done anything about it but I do have a BB so it won't be a problem. In looking at all the emails here about FASS I get the distinct feeling that working for them is not a uniform experience and it must depend on where you are located. In my area, their fee is not great but okay. When I get a call I immediately say my fee is $XXX.XX and I'll have to make sure it's within 20 miles and they are okay with it and they always pay within 10 days. They never bug me much about anything. I call when from my cell when I get done but sometimes I forget and it may be 90 mns or more so once in a while someone will call to check if signing completed. I do hate the occasional calls from "New Dehli" but all in all I like working for them.

Same here. They meet my fee (and it's not low-balled) and I call from cell as soon as signing is completed. Often, they'll call me 60 minutes after signing appointment start (yes, probably from "New Delhi"Wink and I just tell them I'm still at the table. But I never worry about pay, as they usually pay within 2 weeks. I, too, generally like working for them.

FASS has always 'tried' ridiculously uniform requirements (to make their work easier, imho). About 15, 16 years ago--before everyone had cell phones--they wanted all 'their' notaries to only use 'their preferred brand' pager. To my way of thinking, it shows a remarkable lack of understanding of the realities of what we do.

I've had a horrible experience with FASS. I worked with them for 2 years and have virtually no major "quality issues"..then one day I had one small issue and they banned me from working with them; when I tried to dispute the matter they refused to speak to me and took me off their database completely!! I have never had a company treat me with such disrespect !!!

Same here, Lynne...

I had the audacity to question one of their procedures and was subsequently banned by the mysterious "Vendor Relations" group, that replies only in canned language never signs a name or will discuss a situation rationally with you.

10 years service and nearly 2000 signings obviously made no difference; they pushed a button and poof! I was gone and it was like I never existed for them. No sense of loyalty whatsoever.

10 Years of service!!! WOW!! That is truely unbeleivable. That makes me disgusted that companies have the audacity to treat their vendors (that have been SO loyal and bent over backwards for FASS) with such disrespect !! Good Riddens!

Re: Same here, Lynne...

Yep, no loyalty at all. I worked for them for years, white glove, and then I refused to jump thru their background check with XYZ hoop. That was the end of their calls, except for emergencies when they can't find anyone else. I don't miss all their B.S. at all.

Re: Same here, Lynne...

Same here. I worked with them for many years. I had the "nerve" to ask the status of loan documents that I needed and then suddenly "we are not a good match". I would follow up on docs and she said they do not have time to check on those kind of things. I said, fine, I won't follow up, but then some appointments may get cancelled due to lack of docs. She said nope and that we are not a good match. Still not sure what that means.
In more than 19 years in the business I have never been treated so badly. Never made a mistake and went above and beyond only to be dropped. I've never experienced anything remotely like that. Very weird.

Re: Same here, Lynne...

Me too. We had the nerve to insist a 2nd printing should earn a 2nd printing fee since it was not our error. Poof! I can't say I have any regrets. They were making us crazy with all of their demands.
