whatsup with MIS?
First they want me to notarize my own signature ("Every other notary does it no problem" and when I won't do that, they expect me to get a copy of the borrowers id. Why can't they contact the borrower instead of hounding me?

It's not just them
Forms asking the notary to notarize their own signature are cropping up more and more I notice.
I had one yesterday that wanted me to put myself under oath, sign as "closer," and then affix my stamp and seal to the document. It was the title department's identification form. No go.

I had a doozy a few days ago
I tried to make a point of remember the lender, and of course now I can't. It began with a P is all I know. They had a form where I was supposed to fill in *my* ID information, with 2 forms of ID, then notarize my own signature, then return it with copies of my 2 IDs. Needless to say, all they got was a note written on it that said I wasn't giving them my ID info and my notary stamp would suffice.
And no, I didn't add my notary stamp to that document either.

Been seeing that for years, various TCs, usually on ID Affs. I just draw a line & have B's sign it and change Cert wording so I'm 'notarizing their sigs'. So far, so good. But, it's still silly.

Yup...Lee's right.
The confusion comes because Penn. notaries can sign these types of certs.

Why didn't you get a copy of the borrower's id?
I think I have for every single loan I have done.

Me too - think there was only one or two where it
wasn't required (they already had it) -
Donna - if it's in your instructions to get the copy of the ID and you didn't then they're bugging you because it's up to you to follow through and complete your assignment.

Re: Me too - think there was only one or two where it
I get the copy of ID and send it back with the docs whether it's explicitly asked for or not. 95% of the time it's asked for in some way, shape, or form at some point (either on the job confirmation or instructions when the docs arrive). The other 5% when I used to ask them, the TC usually said yes they want a copy.
I find it's just easier to let the borrower know on the confirmation call that I need to collect a copy to send back with the loan docs. I only know of one company that specifically states that they do not need a copy sent back, but they do require a form to be completed that lists the ID info for the borrower. On those I do not ask for or collect a copy.

what I've learned to do....
is just have the borrower sign their name on the MIS ID form and notarize.
I've done this for 10 years with NO problem. Some battles have an easy resolution with no harm done. KWIM?
