Another moan worthy article....

Where do these people come from?

http://www.howtodothings.com/business/how-to-use-a-notary-seal

The best part:

"The legality of the document will be questioned if the seal is attached on a different page, and not on the actual document itself ..."

O.M.G.!!! That's hysterical!!!

Sounds like it was written by a person who can't write very well, to begin with, and who probably asked a few questions of a real notary and didn't let the fact that they didn't understand a word get in their way... Oy vey! You can be sure I won't be depending on anything I might come across from THAT website. Wink

Marian, you sure do find some good ones!! Smile

Okay, Okay, I must stop laughing so I can type...

Did you click on his name near the top of the article. Apparently he is an "expert" (his words not mine: "Areas of Expertise" ) on EVERYTHING including the English language. His profile page lists his Articles. First on the list is "How To Understand and Conquer Punctuation"

Okay, now stop laughing!

Smile

I checked that out, too. It's like the discussion the other day on Victoria Ring--anyone can write an article, book, etc., and claim to be an expert! Grrrrrrr!

Another good part:

"A notary public is an officer who represents the law ..."
-- Where did I leave my badge? Do I get to carry a gun?

And this one:

"Ensure that the one placing the notary seal is really a qualified notary public. Since notary publics are officers who represent the law, you need to guarantee that the person you are working with is truly a licensed notary public." -- My "license" must be with my badge Wink

LOL The writer tells the reader to ensure to make sure they are dealing with a qualified notary, BUT doesn't tell them how to do this. LOL

I was taken aback by the very first line in the article:

"A notary public is an officer who represents the law in order to serve the public."

I didn't know we were law enforcement officers or officers of the court.

The Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level* of the article is 8th grade, and the Fog Level** is over 11!

* The Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level heuristic indicates that the average student in the grade level produced by the scale can read the text.

** The Fog scale is similar to the Flesch scale in that it compares syllables and sentence lengths. 'Foggy' words are words that contain 3 or more syllables. A fog score of 5 is readable, 10 is hard, 15 is difficult, and 20 is very difficult.

Re: Another moan worthy article....if read accurately

The seal should be stamped on the certificate, and should not be placed on a separate page.
If the separate page is the notarial CERTIFICATE, then it works.

Right! Which is what made me think that he asked a few questions of a "real" notary and just managed to get into the ballpark - but still out of bounds. Seems he didn't bother to really understand what he probably was told. After all, they're just a few details, no? Wink

Re: Another moan worthy article....if read accurately

I don't think that's what he meant. He wrote:

"The legality of the document will be questioned if the seal is attached on a different page, and not on the actual document itself so ensure that this step is observed."

Aside from the fact that the notarization has nothing to do with "legalizing" the document, it's pretty clear he thinks you can't attach a loose certificate.

Then there's this:

"Since notary publics are well-trained on how notarization is done, if the seal accidentally concealed a part of your document, the authenticity of the seal will no doubt be questioned."

I don't even know where to start with that one...
