Appreciate Notary Rotary
I really appeciate this site. Today had a company that was new to me call asking me to do a signing. They quoted me a fee and I quoted a higher fee. They did the usual, I will have to check and see if we can pay that. So, while were checking on that I was checking on them. I saw they had several posts for non payment. They called me back saying could pay my fee but told them I could not do the signing because saw on here that they have not paid for signings in the past. Go us. We do need to sitck together on this. We should not have to beg or threaten to get paid for the work we do.

I do the same. I accept but I inform them that I will need to make sure that their company is not listed as a non paying company. Too many notaries being ripped off and I figure we all need to stick together!

I am new to this site so how can you find out about these companies that have bad reputations?

Check Signing Central (see blue tabs above) to look up ratings and comments. (I don't recommend going by just the ratings because everyone has a different idea of what is good - and things may have changed recently.) AND from the main forum page, go to the orange Search tab and do a search on that company. Then use your own best judgment.

Good for you Karen. That's exactly what SC is for.
NotRot is THE BEST of notary sites due to the site itself, the tools offered, and the people. While the other 2 notary sites often mentioned do offer some benefits I have always found NotRot to be the easiest (to navigate) and fastest when it comes to accessing information about companies, notaries, and notary or SA questions.
I know from personal experience, the ratings and information exchanged about TC and SS companies (good, bad, and middle of the road) have helped me and IS something that SS companies are taking notice of more than ever. For the companies with a good track record, I accept quickly and have no real concerns about not getting paid. I love offering professional services for these companies.
When I mention their company standing on this site, the ones with poor payment records have offered to pay via paypal or alter their 'normal' payment policy by offering true NET 15 or true NET 30, and have even been willing to sign a job acceptance agreements that include late fees for late payments and sign off on my fees without trying to low ball me.
For the ones that have some of the worst payment records, they usually will agree to higher fees but stop short of being willing to sign anything. Why not agree to higher fees (meaning my normal professional fees but higher than they usually offer) and anything else, they aren't planning on paying anyway. Those are quickly turned down by me.

Who hooo! Well done Karen! NotRot is awesome isn't it!
I recently had a SS call, new to me, so I had to check them out, when I asked the caller to hold because I had to check them out first here, the woman on the other end rudely commented, "if you're checking on NotRot, we're listed but we've got bad reviews"...to which I replied, well then, we have nothing to discuss unless you can pay my fee via Paypal today....click went the line...
I do appreciate this website very very much as well.

It's difficult to quantify the time, effort and money lost this site has saved all of us who use Signing Central but I'm certain it amounts to an awful lot. In addition, it lets the non payers and low ballers names circulate around so that it becomes more difficult for them to get Notaries to do their work. Keep it up!
