Lender questions signer's sig

This is a first for me after 8+ years of doc signings and its got me wondering if its just me or the title co/lender.
Signing 1: refi of NOO property with new lender. Everything went well until title co. sent back DOT and AKA requesting signer resign as they thought signature and inititals on DOT were irregular. I confirmed signer's ID with DL and passport as well as signing Patriot Act.
Signing 2: reprinted DOT and AKA and copies of how title co wanted him to sign. Borrower not real happy at this point but agreed to resign. I should mention that his signature looks like a minor earthquake reading on a seismograph. (well, this is California) Sent it back again.
Signing 3: title co say the borrower and notary did not do as the lender asked. Want another DOT and AKA signed and didn't think they should pay for it. I refused to go again unless they paid me a small fee. Title co wouldn't budge but the agency that assigned it did. Anyway, made another trip for signatures. Borrower was so upset, he had to stop and take some deep breaths before proceeding. I'm not a handwriting expert, but compared signatures to DL and it looked the same to me.
Today, I get a terse email from the signing agency that the title co is so PO's that they will probably not do business with them again.
I really don't need this siging agency and am thinking of asking them to remove my name from their calling list.
What do you think of all this?

Did Title have copy of DL so they could compare siggy themselves?

No, a copy of DL wasn't asked for.

That may be a resolution to this quagmire. Request copy of DL enlarged to about 125% (so parties can't miss signature) and send it to SS and Title.

You've done your part. Now, it's on them.

It burns me up when something like that happens. Our responsibility is to satisfy ourselves that the person who is signing the document(s) is indeed that same person named therein. What this says to me when a lender or title company does this, is that they do not believe or trust the notary and if that is the case then why hire us in the first place! If the signature on the documents matches the DL and that person tells us that the signature on their DL constitutes the name on the documents then so be it!

I wouldn't contact the borrower again

After inconveniencing the poor guy 2 more times after the signing, if the lender STILL wasn't happy, they're not gonna be happy. Let them deal with him, at this point I'd politely tell them to shove it. And if I weren't interested in getting any more signings from the company, I might not even do it that politely.

It sound like he signed everything else the same way, and they seem to be fine with it, so I can't imagine they'd want him to sign the DOT in a way that doesn't match his signature on the rest of the docs. And if they did, I'm sure they would make it clear to you that they wanted it handwritten in a way that you could actually read his name, which doesn't sound like what happened.

I would just tell them that people can use whatever they want as their legal signature, and it's certainly not your place to tell this guy to change the signature he's probably been using his entire adult life, and that there is simply nothing more you can do, seeing how you've already notarized his signature 3 times and they're still not happy. Ending it with "kiss my grits" is optional.

For just this type of thing, I ALWAYS get a copy of borrowers DL and send with package whether they ask for it or not. Title and Lender can sometimes loose things and try to pull this type of thing every now and then. Not often, thank goodness. But Yoli is right, go get copy of DL and send and then let them handle it from there.

PS:

I also agree that we need to send copies of drivers licenses whether asked for or not. We just love our little scanner just for that reason. Never have to send a package back without the DL.

That would explain it, they will return if all docs aren't

dated the same, ie: if the borrower starts dating 01/01/2010 and changes to 01/01/10 they will make you re-sign the package.

Thanks for all your responses. I like the get a copy of the DL everytime suggestion. However, in this instance, I think it was just an LO who thought they were a handwriting expert and a DL probably wouldn't have made a difference. I suggested that they add a Signature Affidavit to their loan docs.
Also, I did ask the signing agency to remove my name from their calling list.

Ok. This borders on the absurd. Take a photo, or better

yet phone-video of the signing. Email to offending entity.

Once, after going back to her workplace for a "re-sign" because Mrs. Borrower's intial "J" was "rejected," then immediately faxed from her desk, I leave. Get a call from SS two miles down the road that "they" still weren't satisfied, and wanted me to go back.

I told her "YOU call her and tell her that signing in front of the Notary a SECOND time wasn't good enough, I'm not. Your borrowers are my neighbors, and I watched her sign TWICE. You take it up with Mrs. Borrower."

Loan funded, I got paid - but not for useless second trip.

Perfectly insane behavior, if you ask me.
