Re: MARYLAND AND SURETY BOND

SORRY TOO FAST ON THE KEYS
MAYBE I HAVE BEEN ASLEEP AND MISSED THIS BUT
THERE WAS APPARENTLY A CHANGE EFFECTIVE JULY 1
NOW COMPANIES MUST COVERS NOTARY SIGNING AGENTS UNDER THEIR BOND.
MIA NO LONGER REQUIRES US TO CARRY OUR OWN BOND??????
SO IF A SIGNING SERVICE CALLS US FROM CALIFORNIA AND WE ACCEPT DO THEY ASSUME WE HAVE A BOND OR WHAT?
CONFUSED IN MARYLAND
THANKS

Re: MARYLAND AND SURETY BOND

You have been asleep for a while there have been postings on this subject. If you pm your email address to me I will send you a copy of the new bill. Don't get too excited there's more to it.

Re: MARYLAND AND SURETY BOND

Confused also, does this mean that we can only work for title companies, I just talked to 2 signing companies and they do not have the bonds, only E&O bonds?

Re: MARYLAND AND SURETY BOND

Unfortunately, the signing companies have nothing to do with this new law. The title company that hires the signing company is responsible to cover the TIPIC. If you want a copy of the new law and I'm happy to decifer it for you let me know.

Re: Jenifer, this pertains to MD notaries and their TPL

MIA has a bulletin listed. I have it. If you e-mail me using the address on my profile, I'll reply with a copy of the bill. Please use "Bulletin" as your subject, as I get many e-mails and will delete if I don't know the sender. The way I understand it is this.....We either have to be "appointed" under a Title Company's Fidelity Bond for $150,00 or we must carry our own, hence the $150,000 Surety Bond. I just renewed my License and it was held up until I could fax them a copy of my Surety Bond. The new DOT must include our License Number. Would like to say that I did a signing yesterday for one of the bigger companies and there was no difference in the deed. I tried contacting them last week to see if they knew about it and they didn't respond.

Don't forget you not only have to list your TPL but your name and address on file with MIA on the DOT.
