Nations Direct
I got a call the other day from Nations Direct-when I told them my fee they said they would call me back-they were desperate and came within $5 of my fee. 30 minutes later they canceled the closing. 30 minutes later ANOTHER signing company called me with the borrowers originally w/ Nations Direct. The other signing company gave me exactly what I asked for -no problem and they always pay promptly. Then, Nations Direct called me while I was doing the closing that was originally theirs to do another-I told them I was not available in an HOUR (really didn't want to 'cause of the pay) the girl got mad when I said I had something else to do after that closing -- so she just hung up on me CRUSHED?

Ha! I had one this afternoon - will you drive 50 miles
North on Saturday - only 30 pages to fax back - blah blah.
"Sure, for *this* many dollars."
Now very "But, Ma'am? We only make *this* much, can't you do it for that?"
"Nope, call back if you need me - that's my price."
"Notary Direct, please stop with the "Ma'am." It doesn't work."
"Yes, Ma'am, but..."
"Thanks for calling. Have a good holiday."
Not as fun as yours, but still fun.

I got what what I think was my first ever call from them last month. I told them what my fee was and they said they'd have to check. I was very surprised when they called back and said that it was approved. Knowing their reputation, I called them back about 15 minutes later when I still hadn't received a confirmation. I talked to a different person and was told that they didn't see any order there for me. (Big surprise... NOT!)
For some reason, I actually got a polite person on the phone. She was finally able to find out that it had been assigned to someone else (for a much reduced fee, no doubt). I told her that I would have appreciated being advised about that in case I had received another call. She told me that what probably happened is that another person may have been working on that assignment at the same time and had found someone first. I don't remember the details, but she said that assignment would have then disappeared from their system so the person I spoke to wouldn't have been able to find the record to be able to call me back!
I don't know what to believe, but I'm not sure which is worse: a system that is designed that way or someone making up a cover story like that. I would have been upset if I wasn't expecting it. Instead, I shook my head and laughed.

I got a similar story from another SS about a signing that I had booked but was later given to a cheaper notary. This particular signing service had the nerve to call me a few days later for another signing...HA HA. Needless to say, I turned it down.

I am going to tell them to take me out of their system the next time they call.
I get sick and tired of the whole speech about we'll see if we can get that approved. I have been very clear of my fee and never wavered with them and they will not stop calling. I can't forward them to vm anymore because they are calling with the phone number showing all zeros or all 1s now.
They keep asking me to send my W9 for future signing. Why? There will be no future signing with them unless they start excepting my very fair fee. I keep telling them I don't send W9s until I have a signing on the books but they still keep emailing me with this request.
Happy 4th to you all!

Re: Nations Direct...good luck with the
"take me out of your system" request - I've been doing the same thing for 4 years now - they still call...

I log all companies in my caller ID. If it's a company that I don't want to work for, I simply send it to VM and don't answer the call. Unless ND has a restricted or private number, you should be able to log them in your caller ID.

They came through the other day
Unknown Name and Unknown Number..
That happens to me a lot with them - I get snookered into talking to them every time

Re: They came through the other day
I guess the fact that this was the first time they called me says something about the competition in my area. At least I finally found a silver lining to all that... if they keep me from getting hounded by this company! Must be frustrating to have to frequently waste time telling them "NO".

I have a similar system as Copperhead/VA. I code them (Nations Direct, Sox, etc) as SPAM and give them a special, annoying ringtone so that I don't even bother to pick up the phone since I know it's someone I don't want to talk to.

All they have to do is dial *67 and then your number, and caler id is blocked.
