PROFICIENCY SIGNINGS DOES NOT PAY NOTARIES!!!!!!!!!!!

The deadbeats owe me $290 from 10/09!!! Every couple of months they call me for a signing. I politely tell them I'm booked, but oh, there are 3 old invoices that need to be cleared up. 'Natalie-in-accounting' is not in today; she left early today, etc. Idon't think there is a 'Natalie'. I think it's a code for 'uh-oh, someone wants their money'!
These cockroaches called me 4 times Monday - the last 2 calls I sent to vmail - no mssg of course!
Work for them & you work for free! My apologies to any cockroaches I may have offended!

If you check SC you will see that they have a poor payment history. IMO you should have sent a stern collections letter long ago.

I have a crazy question...when deadbeats owe us promised money and then they call for another signing...is it legal after the signing to not turn in the docs to them until they pay past due debt?? I have never done this...but wonder sometimes about it when I see postings like this for Notaries.

Not a good idea. The only one's to be hurt by this are the borrowers and title.

As intriguing as the idea is, in a word: Don't even think about it. First, I would not want to be holding a bunch of documents hostage for any reason. Second, if any of the parties involved decided to sue you over this, I would guess the judge would say that the loan you refused to send back has nothing to do with past unpaid invoices. But probably, by the time the deadbeats got this all figured out, they'd just send anothernotary to get it done and bypass you all together. I'm sure there are other reasons why this would never work. And if it were actually a good idea, we'd have already been doing it. However, it never hurts to think outside the box ...

In the end, you would be liable for the borrower's damages as a result of the loan not funding.

Best thing to do is avoid the deadbeats and keep checking SC for ratings....If a company received a lot of negative feedback, turn the order back to them and inform them you cannot chance working for free. Other option is request payment in advance, PayPal.

Beware of this company. You'll spend more time trying to collect your money then doing the signing. I have closings from April that I travelled a long way for and Its almost August first and I am still trying to pry payment from thier clenched fists. Book with a more reputable company!
