Printing Letter and Legal Documents..How do you split?

Hello,
Having trouble printing documents because most title companies want you to split documents......... some are letter and some are legal. Anyone have any suggestions on how to make this printing process easier? I have a Officejet Pro 8500 Premier. I usually go into print...properties and view documents and tell printer to use tray 1 or 2 and then instruct it pages 1of 8 legal, 9-23 letter, 24-60 legal 61-90 letter and so on. It takes so long. Is everyone else doing this? I need a printer that I can just hit print and walk away! HELP! I had 4 signings yesterday and it took me forever to print documents!

If you have a dual tray printer, just have your settings to auto select.

First of all, you need a LASER printer

And, any company I've ever worked with since 2003 REQUIRE it.
Laser printing protects documents from running with ink, as the toner is not water soluble.
This message just blows my mind!
Didn't you know that?
That is NSA 101!

Re: First of all, you need a LASER printer

That copier's specs are (partial):

Print speed black (draft, letter)
Up to 35 ppm
Print speed color (draft, letter)
Up to 34 ppm
Print speed, black (normal quality mode)
Up to 19 ppm
Print speed, color (normal quality mode)
Up to 19 ppm
Print speed, laser comparable, black
Up to 15 ppm
Print speed, laser comparable, color
Up to 11 ppm

Print technology
HP Thermal Inkjet
===================

Maybe the "laser comparable" threw her off. However, Misty is absolutely correct. Laser printer is a requirement.

You MUST use a laser printer. Absolutely must. If you are buying one now, then get a dual tray so it will automatically pull letter or legal size as it's printing. For printers that only have one tray, you can just print on all legal size.

I have the HP 2430tn. The "t" means it has an extra paper tray. The "n" means it can network. There is a used one on EBAY right now for less than $200 with only a 15,000 page count on it. I buy remanufactured toner cartridges from LD Products, for about $50 per high-yield cartridge (HP 11X). It's rated for 12,000 pages but I typically get about 8,500 or so out of each cartridge.

Other HP printers I have seen recommended on this forum are the HP 3005 or the HP 4100tn, also available on EBAY.

I have no experience with Brother printers so someone else can make those recommendations.

Yep, Lee, spot on

But you'd think someone who teaches notaries and NSAs would know the basics.
I wonder if she just isn't trolling for lack of something better to do on a Sunday.
Now, I am going back to the pool.
THAT is something better than getting worked up about a moron who wants to start trouble.

Teacher, smeacher, laser, smaser.

Check out this google entry for Nicole Terry:
"From the titillating thoughts in your mind, comes the libidinous Nicole Terry, to wet the sensuous image of your satisfaction onto the alluring screen..."

Maybe it's a different Nicole Terry; I didn't get that far. The image of a notary signing agent who'd fit that description was just too much to give up; I don't want reality to intrude. Brings a whole nuther dimension to the profession.

A libidinous signing agent to wet my sensuous images..Oh, my! My prayers have been answered -- and I'm an agnostic!

Damn! Double danged damn! You coulda left me with my fantasies for a little while longer, Yolanda. Wonder if maybe the actual Nicole Terrell would consider altering her approach? Or maybe Nicole Terry would consider becoming a signing agent?

Such is the stuff of which dreams are made.

Geez, Hugh - Maybe if you spent less time in rapture over the fantasy of a delicious, libidinous LSA, you could keep better track of your cartridge supplies.

You're using INK????

Like the others have said... you must use a laser printer. It's more professional and costs FAR less to print in the long run. Get a dual tray to automate the process. The main one I use is a Brother 5250 DNT. It has served me VERY well. The newest version of this printer is the Brother HL-5370DWT.

I'm terrified to know what you're teaching your notary students.

one tray or two?

I have 2 laser printers a hp2420D and a hp3005dn. BOTH have only one drawer for paper. I do not have a second drawer, but I do have a drop down paper tray located front and center. This is the tray you would use to load envelopes or odd size paper. It also will hold legal or letter. I load the paper drawer with legal size (this is tray #2 which is clearly marked on the lower right hand corner of the drawer/tray. The fold down papertray located front and center which is tray #1 also labeled as such in the right hand corner. I have tray #1 in the down position loaded with letter size paper. I have the printer set to autoselect which tray to use depending on the pdf size detected in the print job. It works perfectly, and is for all intents and purposes a dual tray printer. You do not NEED to buy an extra drawer.

This is exactly my setup, too, Sheila

No need for a second tray. I have two hp 2015ds, and they're both set up that way. HP tech will walk you through how to get autoselect to work if you need help. So far, it's worked perfectly.

Re: one tray or two?

I do the same thing with my Brother 5150D. I think the auxiliary tray holds up to 50 sheets, which was more than enough letter-size in most packages.

<<<Hello, Having trouble printing documents because most title companies want you to split documents......... some are letter and some are legal.>>>

Of the loan signings I've completed, only twice did the TC want certain docs printed on letter and the others all legal. One of those times, the TC emailed two pdfs - one for letter, the other for legal. When I became a NSA, it was stated to get a laser printer....nothing was mentioned about dual trays nor did I know what that was. I had a small inkjet printer that served my needs just dandy. I only have single tray laser printers and once they wear out, then I'll buy a dual tray laser printer.

In the meantime, I print in all legal and the TC will need to use a paper cutter if they want some of the docs letter size OR send a separate pdf for the ones they want in letter size. Otherwise, they get them in all legal.

Not sure which TCs you work with, but the ones I work with all want the docs printed on all legal size paper.

Walmart sells legal size paper at $5.64 per ream - all day every day. I don't do enough signings anymore to buy printer paper by the case.

I've never had a TC separate the docs out for me like that. They always send them in one big package. If I get a separate file, it usually just an updated HUD or TIL statement.

It only happened once that the edoc file came in two separate letter and legal attachments. Otherwise, they're sent in either one or a few attachments. One signing had a request for all letter size printing.

I was going nuts until I bought a used/refurbished HP LaserJet 4100T on Ebay for $138 (including shipping). Now, my life is bliss! Not all printers will obey the "choose paper source by paper size" command. This one works like a charm! Good luck.
