Problems w/HP 3050 4 in 1...anybody???

It's an oldie & HP no longer supports it. This is an intermittant problem--not continual. I have searched every place I can think of and--nada. The problem I'm having makes absolutely no sense to me--but what do I know??? (Nothing)
If I make a copy--it's beautiful. If I scan a black & white original to e-mail--I sometimes get pink &/or green colors in various places on the scan/no consistency of 'where'. When faxing--a very few will come out perfect, but most of them print total gibberish in only one particular vertical area of the page.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the 'thingy' that does the copy/scan/fax job the same thing?
And, if it is, why am I getting different results, depending upon whether its a copy or scan or fax?
Also, if anyone actually knows how to change the ppi/resolution of a scan to greyscale, please explain it in very simple idiot-proof steps. (I have a weird notion that this might help; know it can be done; don't have a clue how/where.)

I also have an HP3050 that is 4+ years old. Although I have not had any problems like the one you are experiencing, I suggest that you try and shut off the orinter and disconnect the USB cable for a couple of minutes. This may help but I'm not sure of that either. I looked at the settings on mine and can't find a way to adjust the resolution of a scan. I'm not sure any of this will help but it can't hurt.

Not the same problem but maybe you can help...

I have a HP3015 and a HP3050. I bought a new computer with Windows 7 a short while ago and since then I've not been able to scan with the HP3050 but can with the HP3015. I would like to free up some space in my office by dumping the HP3015 and using just the 3050 for faxing and scanning and my HP4050 for printing. I tried to find out via HP but as you said they don't support it anymore. Any ideas??

My best guess is try a new driver that will work with Windows 7, if such an animal is available.
Don't believe a word I say as I have no clue really.
